Okay, well.. it hasn't been that long. The Bears aren't too far off their last Continental Cup victory and despite rebuilding not too long after winning, aren't too far off once again making the leap into contention. For Bears GM Blake Campbell, it ay seem like a lifetime. While the team has had a nice little start, you can't help but look back and remember the stone cold rape that took place between them and the Davos Dynamo. Though and now, you look at the bigger picture and they didn't do too bad. Would it have been smart to hold off and wait? Some argue yes, some argue no. I like to go with no for a couple of reasons. The first being that I owe it to those guys. I'm supposed to do whatever it takes for the team to succeed and this move was not one of those. BUT, sometimes you also do right by your guys. They stuck around, helped me out so I helped them out and look.. they won a cup.. hopefully this is something they remember though I'm unsure they do. They next piece to it was that we didn't know who was coming, who was going and we're not ready to accept playing for mediocrity. Lastly, we didn't come out of it all that bad.

The last few seasons we've picked up some nice pieces - Thompson, Sterling, Kovalev, Kovalchuk and Smirnov. Now, we have the draft approaching and we're pretty pleased with everything right now. We're trying to get our boys points, but we don't want to win.. yet we are.. so that's a nice sign. Everyone is clicking amazingly on the team right now. Sterling is playing strong and once the team around him is a little stronger, look out. The offense is crazy good and the boys are flying. I think it's a matter of time before they become "The 3", though, there's always room for me. Rumble, Rumble.. the Bears are involved in some extremely small rumours - but have been noted in being interested in a player off the Helsinki Titans roster. With new management in, will they be willing to get a deal done? Guess we'll see.

So I guess the title is wrong. It hasn't been a while but man, it felt like it. I'm excited though! I'm happy with the group we got, how everyone has stepped up and how strongly everyone has progressed. We're lights out for offensive skills and hopefully this attracts some guys in the off-season to hop over and play with us. We'll be adding a nice piece in the draft which will go along with our stellar core, next all we need i those little pieces to truly push us over. Tides are changing, the Bears are growing. Very exciting time to be in Seattle.

As GM Blake Campbell left the podium, he turned and smiled. Crazy thing was, through that tough stretch, his hair was greying. Call me crazy or call it hair dye - who knows, but he's looking young these days. Do we have a case of the VHL's Benjamin Button on our hands?
