The season is now officially over! Riga ended up winning the cup, they beat Calgary in the finals 4-2, I guess they deserved to win it, finished first in the regular season and all that. Perhaps quite interesting when looking at the statistics, Mats Johnsson won the playoff scoring title with 16 points in 12 games - he is a defender! I played with him in the last World Cup, nice to see a player you know bit more closely playing so well, I must ask some tips on how to score next time I see him, he has really underrated shot, five goals in those 12 games is great total from the blueline.

 

Otherwise, I don´t really have too much to say about the playoffs, I stopped following hockey almost completely after Quebec Meute got eliminated, been just waiting for the phone to ring and management telling me when the training camp starts, so I know when to show up or be fashionably late by couple days or week.

 

Speaking of management in Quebec, not so long ago it was announced that a new assistant GM is joining the organization! BladeMaiden is going to work with Beaviss and hopefully, help lead the Meute back to finals and to cup glory! I have not spoken with BladeMaiden too much yet, but from the few words few changed, she sounds like the perfect option for the job and is going to be a valuable part of Quebec when going forward.

I think she has a deeper voice than Beaviss, that is not necessarily saying Blademaiden has a deep voice, just Beaviss having not so deep voice. All that yelling in the practice has done him a lot of harm, so BladeMaiden joins the organization at the right time and is more than likely going to take over the yelling role in the practice. Been nice to see that general manager is watching the players practice, but I honestly have not been able to hear what Beaviss been yelling for some time now, hopefully, the management is present in the practice in the future as well and also feedback from the management sitting on the stands is going to be heard on the ice.

 

 

Going to be interesting to see what happens between now and the start to the regular season, the draft is coming up, do we see trades, who will be called up and of course, do we see any surprise retirements being announced? Long season with potentially serious injuries from playoffs can force players to retire earlier than many expected.

 

When talking about Quebec, I believe Komarov is the only player who has announced his retirement so far, we have known it for some time now, but I must say that it´s going to be really weird to not see him in training camp among other players. I wish him all the best when going forward, we did not play together in Quebec too long, but I learned a lot from him, starting from how you should and need to prepare for each game and practice, a true professional and an excellent two-way center.

Hefty lad for sure, but long season - need some fuel for the engine!
