STZ 5,339 Posted March 13, 2014 Share Posted March 13, 2014 JAKE WYLDE ROOKIE PROFILE Jake Wylde is a top defensive prospect coming out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has proven himself in many different leagues, and many scouts have him pegged as a future VHL Franchise Superstar. He played his hockey in Minesota growing up, and then moved to the OHL where he was drafted by the Oshawa Generals. Wylde gained huge recognition during his first year with the Generals, and was signed by the STZ Player Agency to be represented in the VHL. VHL teams are allowed to select one prospect per General Manager term, to by-pass the VHL draft and right into the system. As Tuomas Tukio was traded to the Quebec City Muete, the Helsinki Titans has a slot open for their future prospect. Jake Wylde was contacted and is now confirmed to be a future Helsinki Titan. This honour of by-passing the VHL Draft is one of the highest forms of recognition as this sort of tag is only presented to the most prestigious and elite prospects in the world. Very few of these franchise prospects are ever found to be less than extraordinary. So, who is Jake Wylde? Jake is a hybrid defenseman coming out of the great hockey state of Minnesota. He is part of the emergence of this new age style of hybrid defenders. Not only is he very good at protecting his net, but he’s a great skater who can great plays offensively. His biggest knock is that he is a jack of all trades, and a master of none. Wylde is an offensive force, who has just recently started working on his checking and defensive game. He was a force in Oshawa, but takes on a bigger role as he enters the VHLM. Jake was drafted 2nd overall to the Turku Outlaws, who are gearing up for a long run at the Founder’s Cup. The STZ Player Agency has only represented one player, but that player was Ethan Osborne. The agency hopes that Wylde can show the same kind of leadership skills and on-ice talent that Osborne did. “Wylde is a cornerstone defenseman. He is projected to be a first line pairing defenseman, and a power-play quarterback. I’ve seen this kid go end-to-end and absolutely tear through teams. He’s been playing like a pro for the last four years now, this should be a natural transition into the VHLM and eventually to the VHL.” - VHL Scouting Alliance Buyer Beware: Wylde is a great player, but by no means has he proven to be a one man wrecking machine. He depends heavily on other players, in order for him to be successful. He is going onto a very strong and young core in Helsinki, so hopefully that is good news. He is a great two-way defender, however lacks a mean streak. His inexperience has made some scouts doubt his play under pressure and during rough games. Jake Wylde’s future is all but certain. He will spend the VHLM season for Turku, and then join the Helsinki Titans next year. Scouts have him pegged as an elite prospect, but only time will tell if he will fulfill that prediction. The flow was hindered somewhat due to some odd occurrences. All jokes aside, Wylde certainly will have lofty expectations placed upon him, but I think he'll do just fine in Helsinki. You know what they say about defense and championships!
