Just to throw my hat in the discussion that has seemingly already ended, nowadays I use the view new content button and then go check in on threads I don't see on there since, at least for the past week, threads don't seem to last on the first listing of the menu unless it's the middle of the night.

 

Back before the VHL forum was sprawling (like first forum days) I would check every subforum one by one and read any new thread or post. I dunno how I ever managed to do that wild shit tbh, just glad I don't do it anymore.
