Marlins ready to flip switch to playoff mode

The San Diego Marlins will face off against the Halifax 21’s in the first round of the playoffs. This will be a tough test as Halifax are the defending champions and are looking to repeat.

The Marlins have a lot to play for and that’s why the Marlins say they’ll be just fine in the VHLM playoffs, despite signs that suggest the opposite over the last half of the regular season.

“I don’t think anybody in here is too worried,” Greg Eagles was saying as the Marlins wrapped up their first playoff practice of the week. “We’re feeling pretty good with the spot we’re in. We’ve shown the levels we can play at. Yeah they may be a good team but anything can happen in the playoffs.”

The way Eagles sees it, his team’s mediocre play the last 3 weeks are just signs of a a new team, with a group of new players trying different things out.

“This is what we’ve been waiting for all year” Eagles said. “We were confident all year that were going to be in the playoffs, well here we are. So it’s time to perform. A lot of these players are here for the playoffs and really step up there game and bring it during playoffs.”

That sounds like the Marlins think they can just flip the switch to Postseason Mode. We have not seen this group together in the playoffs yet, but if they can play like they did at the beginning of the season, Eagles might have a point.

Even the GM was speaking in those terms when we spoke to him.

“Every single team has a switch” InstantRockstar said. “The type of energy that players give out during the playoffs is just so hard to find during the regular season, during the playoffs you’re hyped when you get to the rink and you’re excited all day and the night before you feel it coming.”

In this reporters mind all teams get more wired at this time of year. We know that. So every team will be matching the intensity of the Marlins.

“It’s more fun, I’ll tell you that,” is how Eagles put it. “Guys are putting in more work, the energy in the locker room is on a whole different level, it’s very hard to describe”

FUN TIMES DURING PLAYOFFS

It’s not just the players who have more fun at this time of year.

“Playoffs are a lot more fun to coach both teams come full of energy and prepared. You want to be careful your players don’t have so much energy that they end up gassing themselves in the first few minutes. The coach has to manage this and manage the lines” Said the Marlins Coach.

 The coach continued

“That being said you want that energy in your locker room and you want the enthusiasm of the crowd feeding your players because the emotions of the players are critical.”

We spoke to Eagles about the fun factor as we were wrapping up

“Yeah the playoffs are always fun but you also have to have your eye on the prize, were here to win the cup and that is what our goal is. We will have fun doing it but we will also be dedicated and determined”

All of us here at the Wroclaw Times wish the Marlins and Eagles the best of luck in the teams first ever playoffs

Whoops, I definitely misread the game 6 score from last season finals :-/

Yup, I believe we've never won the cup but have finished in the top 4 every season.
