New Ownership Group Eyeing Oregon for Possible Expansion

Portland, Oregon – A new ownership group has come forward in the state of Oregon in an attempt let it be known that they are looking to put forward a bid to found a new expansion franchise in Portland. Not much is known yet about the ownership group but there is talks that new VHLM player Jeff Downey’s family may be somehow involved. There was also a document leaked that a possible team name for the squad could be the ‘Oregon Trails’.

Although a bit of a non-traditional hockey market it is no secret at all that the Northwest states support their sports franchises like few other markets. The Portland Timbers have developed a rabid fanbase and the nearby Seattle Seahawks have among the most passionate fan bases in all of North American sports culture.

At this point this is all of course just speculation but the talk about VHL franchise expansion has been heating up in recent months. With a large influx of players recently there appears to be a possible need for more franchises in both the VHLM as well as the VHL. Other suggested locations for expansion franchises include Nuuk, Greenland as well as Hawaii but are either of these really viable markets for a hockey franchise?
