Rollins On the Move?

By Dean Ambrose

Don’t go running to the Ottawa team store anytime soon to get your official Seth Rollins jersey. This is, of course, if you believe the rumblings coming out of the VHLM rumor mill. Rollins, a rookie, has had a muted impact thus far on the team that took a waiver risk to bring him into the fold. After having visa issues at the beginning of the season, it took longer for Rollins to see the ice and that may have resulted in messing with Seth’s mentality. As of the time this article was written, Rollins has been completely the opposite of what he was scouted as. Seth was expected to be an explosive goal scorer, and he’s been anything but that. Seth has only netted nine goals this season, and he’s going to have to work a lot harder at burying the biscuit in the basket if he wants to make it to a top line in the VHL. Rollins currently leads his team with 30 points in 27 games. This would be impressive if it led to any team wins for the Lynx, but even with Rollins being a modest contributor, the team continues to be awful.

Rollins has been all smiles even through a hard season in Ottawa.

If you take a quick glance at the standings, you’d see that Ottawa is one spot out of the VHLM playoffs. If you decide to dig deeper, however, you’ll soon see that their 2-29 record is historically atrocious. When it comes to organized professional hockey, the Ottawa Lynx are right up there with the all-time worst teams. Of course, as fate would have it, Ottawa isn’t even the worst team in the VHLM this year. That honor goes to the Blades, who are 1-30, with only two points in the standings. This unusually bad season is a perfect motivational tool for Rollins to play well, in order to get the attention of a team poised to make a splash in the post season. Rollins could be a decent option for depth if a championship contender wanted to take the chance on the young center. When asked about a potential change of scenery, Rollins had this to say:

“First things first, hockey is a business at this point. I understand that Ottawa is struggling this season, and they’re looking for value down the line. Quite frankly, that’s fine by me. I’m not here to cause problems. All I want to do is lace up my skates, go out there, and prove that I belong. I’ve had a season below what I’ve expected thus far on a personal level, but I know that I have a long way to go. It’ll be a long journey, but I know that I have the mental strength to deal with this. I love Ottawa and the fans here, but if my career takes me elsewhere, I need to embrace it.”

Rollins can be a play maker in the right situation.

While this has been a season from hell for Ottawa fans, at least they can rest at night knowing that their farm system produced a player like Rollins. Seth, while hard on himself, has been effective on an ineffective team this season. Rollins surely won’t win any awards this season, but he can make a foot print for his future. Seth Rollins could be sprung into a VHLM playoff picture within days, and if it happens, expect Rollins to flourish.

582 words. Nice article. I would love for us (Turku Outlaws) to make a pitch for you, but that isn't up to me. This was great in that you appeared to be the consummate professional in dealing with the situation in Ottawa. Hopefully things work out for you because you appeared level-headed about everything. Keep up the solid work PT-wise.

Grammar: 2/2
