The VHL draft is coming up soon and we take the opportunity to check in with our VHLM Ottawa Lynx defenseman Finnegan MacBurn on his feelings about the possibility of being drafted to an expansion club.

 

I love the idea of being drafted into the VHL in general. Now with that qualifier out of the way. I feel I have really embraced Ottawa as my home as soon as I was traded here. I invested in the local economy (please buy some maple syrup), supported the arts scene, and volunteered time at our local hospital. I made it a part of my life journey and feel fortunate for the people it brought into my life. I always say time and attention are the only life currency we have to spend. I feel Ottawa was a good investment, but life as a VHL prospect means I hopefully will be drafted soon. The fact that it could be to an expansion team in their inaugural season would be historic which is very exciting. I like the idea that an organization is willing to take the risk of choosing me as a building block for the future and envisions me as a good asset to grow with. If I get drafted by an expansion team there are no shoes to fill or historic comparables, it instantly relieves some of the pressure to perform that I have a tendency to put on myself. I would prefer this scenario but it is out of my hands. The draft can be a fickle mistress. I will say that no matter where I end up, I will embrace my time there and make the most of it, that much is in my control.
