DangerGolding 222
The San Diego Marlins had a devastatingly bad start to the S68 season, with the lack of reliable goaltender and some concerns about depth in the defenseman positions the Marlins sustained heavy losses early on. The first half of the season ended with the Marlins with a 14-22 record as despite the excellent play of Chad Gilbert and Roadkill Steve leading the offence, the Marlins were conceding goals freely. A pickup of goal tender Nicolas Fomba was the spark for a turn around in San Diego's fortunes, in the second half of the season the Marlins went 24-9, a winning percentage of 0.666 which would get them 47 wins if they held that pace for the entire season. They strung together an 8 game winning streak in this stretch as well. This form brought them to the 7th seed, though not a astonishing feat it is certainly higher than many Marlins fans dared to hope for at the all-star break. Now they will match up with the Las Vegas Aces, an intimidating matchup as they Aces have the highest goal difference in the league along with the top 2 points scorers in the league. However the Marlins do have firepower of their own with the 3rd, 4th and 8th highest point scorers, not only that but the Marlins also have the 3rd and 9th highest goal scorers. However the fact that San Diego are 1-6 against the Aces this season with the only win being a shootout win might give the higher seed the mental edge in the matchup. It should certainly be a series to keep an eye on for the casual fans, I expect games with a lot of scoring and fast paced action.
