This week we are travelling far away from the North American powerhouse of Vancouver, and going across the world to the beautiful Swiss Alps, to Davos; a team that has had a precipitous decline, despite very recently competing for the cup. HC Davos Dynamo @ShawnGladeDirty Dynamite, by KROKUS HC Davos is a team that has been subject to a lot of abuse recently, due to their seemingly inevitable poor performances this season. With their only players over 350 being their goaltender Finn Davison and top center John Madden, Davos has struggled to perform this season, winning only 15 points out of 34 games played. Their rebuild prospects aren’t fantastic; although they control two draft picks next season, neither appears to be a likely lottery pick in Toronto or Seattle, and if their pick wins the lottery, they could miss out on a generational talent. With that being said, two first round picks are two first round picks, and they have that in both of the next two drafts at the moment. With smart drafting and good asset management, the Dynamo could flip into full rebuild, and begin rebuilding a winning roster for what is truly a storied franchise. For our musical accompaniment this week we will go with Swiss hard rock group Krokus’ song “Dirty Dynamite.” Not only does this song both come from a Swiss band, and share part of its name with the Dynamo, the lyrics describe the bittersweet taste of a bygone era; something that fans of the Dynamo might be feeling with how their team is performing at the moment. However, with such memories comes the knowledge that a return to greatness is possible, and with a little bit of luck, that return will come soon.
