DollarAndADream 3,356
The Outlaws Head for the Playoffs The season is over and done with and the playoffs are soon to begin. One of the many interesting stories this season was the number of players drafted to the Turku Outlaws and what would happen as a result. The Outlaws ended the season on a strong note with 6 wins in a row and 9 in their last 10. One player who was exciting to watch this season was Travis Boychuk. After a season on the Ottawa Lynx as a bottom dweller, there were plenty of questions heading into his stint in Turku. Boychuk and the Outlaws finished off on a hot streak and are ready for the playoffs. Being in Ottawa for his first VHLM season, Boychuk had not had the chance to play for the big prize. The Lynx fell just short that season and they had to settle for an end to their year. Now that Boychuk is on the star-studded Outlaws, they are one of a few favourites to win the Cup. "I know I have not been here before, but my team and I are ready. I believe I am ready to perform under any circumstance. I will need to step my game up to another level. We have an amazing group of guys in that locker room and we will be a force to be reckoned with." -------------------------------- Boychuk corrals the puck through the neutral zone. -------------------------------- Travis Boychuk improved his game a ton this season in Turku and it has showed. He has become a more well-rounded player on a stacked squad and produced more often than many had thought. Still mainly a playmaker, but he has found somewhat of a scoring touch this season with 26 goals. "I always believed I could transfer my game over to the VHLM. The only doubters I should have had were people who did not watch me overseas. It is a different game over here and it had taken some time, but I think I have found my place. As long as I continue to make good passes I can produce, but this season my coach and I thought I should try shooting more. I guess you can say it worked out." The Outlaws had many ups and downs throughout their games, but in the end they seemed to have found their spot in the league. They are one of the stronger teams out there and any club will have a great challenge in being their opponent. As long as they continue to play to their strengths and act as a team, they should find success. "We need to remain focused if we are going anywhere this post-season. A few times throughout the season we lost ourselves as teammates and tried to do things on our own. We cannot take that direction on the road to victory. It is not difficult to realize that all of us are just as skilled as the next on this squad and we should not be a puck hog. We must stick to making plays and listening to our coach." -------------------------------- Travis Boychuk posing in the locker room. -------------------------------- The forwards in Turku find themselves behind a very offensive D-core, which helps greatly when it comes to scoring. It takes a big load off of the player's shoulders when a defenseman can make a play and does not leave it all up to the forwards. The Outlaws have plenty of defensemen willing to jump into the rush or dish a sweet pass to a sniper. "The guys on the back end have definitely helped a lot this season. Svoboda, Vlasis and Wylde have been ridiculous this year in taking over games. If they keep playing on the level they have and Svoboda keeps up his spectacular offensive numbers, I feel like we can go anywhere. The way our defense has been this season it has not been hard to receive their passes or find them in an opening. I am very greatful that they make it easier for us up front." Travis Boychuk and the Turku Outlaws will be an important team to follow in these playoffs and many analysts believe they have what it takes to win it all. As always, nothing is for certain and any team can find the gold. What lies ahead will be an exciting time for all. [This is for Sunday night(8:40AM now). Had work and got home now to post it.] Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/7367-claimedtravis-boychuk-is-ready/ Share on other sites
