Grigorenko following his last regular season game in Quebec City.

QUEBEC CITY, Quebec – Yuri Grigorenko’s story is just about over. Grigorenko played his last regular season game a few nights ago, a three to two loss to the eliminated Cologne Express. He managed to add an assist in his final game, bring his total up to thirty four on the season. His last home game of the season came a few days earlier, where he played in front of the Quebec City faithful for the last time during the regular season. He opened the scoring, netting his thirty-fifth goal of the season, and added a helper on the fifth Meute goal. After the final buzzer, Grigorenko took the time to take a few laps around the ice, saluting and thanking the fans of the team that he had spent the most time with. Grigorenko signed a two year deal during the S33 offseason, and elected to re-up his contract when it expired.

When his career first started, most expected the young Russian talent to dominate the score sheet once he hit the VHL ice. The signs looked even more positive after he scored 108 times and added 75 helpers in his junior season. After a disappointing rookie season which saw him score 14 times and add seven assists, Grigorenko picked up the pace and had himself a respectable career. In a total of 576 games played, the big right winger totaled 301 goals, 345 assists for 646 points, while finishing an incredible +372. He became an indcredible clutch performer towards his last couple of seasons, scoring 38 game winning goals over his last three seasons.

Following the game in Quebec City, Grigorenko had this to say:

“I’m thankful for all that the fans here have given me. I was extremely proud to help win a Cup here in Quebec City. This was definitely home to me. I would also like to thank the proud and amazing fans in Calgary and Helsinki as well. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the support everyone has given me over my career. But it isn’t over yet. I still have some left, and ready to give it all in hopes of another cup. We can win this one.” – Yuri Grigorenko
