A Stroll Down Muffmory Lane, Part Reik (II)

Recommended Posts

Chapter 8: Reikkinen Conclusion

Reikkinen ended his career as one of the most impactful players in VHL history to the point that he played to. He served as a key depth player on a curse-busting team, notched a 150-point season that people figured would never happen again, and broke the single season hits record as well. Unsurprisingly, Reikkinen was named a VHL Hall-of-Famer in his first season of eligibility, Season 33.

I certainly didn’t intend for this portion of the stroll down muffmory lane to be all about Reikkinen, but it turns out I had a lot to say about him. I had one of the worst GMing runs in VHL history running Vasteras, and part of me will always feel like that run was a reason the league will never see a Vasteras franchise again. One day, I’d like to get another shot at GMing in the league, especially now that I wouldn’t be mired in a time of limited assets. We’ll see if that ever happens.

I'd love to see you get another crack at GMing. Was so early in the league for me that my handle on GMing wasn't the best but I feel like it wasn't entirely on you that run. Vasteras still had a negative reception then, and following the Cup win and Milo's huge pro Vasteras forum presence it felt like the league wanted to see the team fail when they did. Keeping an eye on when you may be primed to take a spot over in the modern era sir!

I guess I should have put it more like I had an opportunity to help shake that perception following the cup run and I didn't succeed at doing so while making some weird moves in the process. I've learned a lot since then and think I'd do much better now although I doubt I'd ever have the steady activity required to do the job well. :P
