Boychuk's End of Season Article

With the season come and gone, and the Turku Outlaws being eliminated from the post-season, Travis Boychuk looks towards the VHL. It has been a strong showing for Boychuk in the VHLM, while putting up respectable numbers on the Ottawa Lynx in his rookie season and the Turku Outlaws this year. He has experienced all the ups and downs of being in the minors while on two completely different types of clubs. One might say, he has been seasoned for the big leagues.

In Boychuk's only 11 games in his VHLM Playoff career, he had accomplished 10 points. On a Turku squad that was so focused on defensive scoring, this centerman played up to par with what was expected of him even though he only scored the lone goal. In the playoffs, Travis Boychuk maintained a 60.85% in the face off circle. His head might be focused on what he did not earn this post-season, but anyone can look at him and know what he brings to the table. This season on the Outlaws will be one to remember, and his season with the Ottawa Lynx was a good thing to experience for a youngster. That should bode well for him in the VHL with the Calgary Wranglers.

In total, Travis Boychuk scored 123 points in 128 games played. For a man adjusting to the North American game of hockey, these are magnificent numbers. Of those 123 points, 40 of them were goals. This is expected of a player with a pass-first mentality like Boychuk. The skill and precision of the pass that Boychuk possesses are one of the many reasons that he was drafted 8th overall by the Wranglers. When you look at this player, there is no in between the lines. You know from his numbers that he brings a solid game night in and out.

With the season over and done for Boychuk, we have the off-season and next year's stint in the VHL to look forward to. With that in mind, we have an exclusive interview with Travis on his thoughts:

Interviewer: Your season and the playoffs for Turku is now over. How do you feel right now?

TB: I am very disappointed. Not to discredit the Bern Royals, but we have a great group of guys in Turku and I could not say enough about the guys here. I thought we had the will to win it all and I wish I could have done more myself. Olynick was very on his game and was unstoppable at times. We were stunned in that Game 6.

Interviewer: You had a recent interview where you came out and stated you were stressed being unable to produce. Any more on that?

TB: For awhile there I could not buy a goal. I wanted to come out and produce for my team. I did end up with 1 goal in the playoffs, which to me is not enough. Everyone considers me a playmaker but I have worked on my shot a lot this season but it just did not seem to work in the post-season.

Interviewer: Now that your run with Turku is done, what are you looking to do in this off-season?

TB: I will continue to work as hard as I can to get better before I start in Calgary. The main goal is to get stronger and keep working on my shooting and passing. I definitely do not want to get rusty before I start in the VHL. It will be a little bit before Training Camp starts but I am very excited.

Interviewer: Next season you will finally be in the VHL, the league you have been playing your whole life for. How about that?

TB: I am ecstatic to start my career there. I very much want to make my mark in the VHL and I am getting my chance to do that. I am going to try my best to cash in there and help bring the city of Calgary the Cup in the long run. It will not happen next year, I know that, but everything has been a learning experience thus far and will continue to be. This is my shot to play with the big boys and I want to be a trusted centerman there.

Interviewer: It is well known that your team in Turku are close, and now you will have new beginnings in a new jersey. Are you ready?

TB: It will be sad to be separated from my teammates on the Outlaws. I had a very fun time on the ice and in that locker room. I will continue to keep in touch with everyone there and watch them play. Turku is a place that I became attached to and it will be difficult to leave. I'm going to try and moniter my teammates' careers and I hope to see them on the ice in the V

829 words. Great article here. It was a nice hald and half where you had the article and then the interview. I, too will miss Turku, but I'm sure we will cross paths at some point in our VHL careers. Good luck in Calgary, they got a gem.
