ROOKIE745 607
Jaxx Hextall 6'7" 192 lb 17 years old Jaxx has made it clear that whatever team acquired him would have a future franchise goalie on their hands, one looking to set records for the team. While Jaxx's training may have been a little slow to start, once he settled he quickly picked up and hasn't slowed done since then. despite joining fairly late in the S70 draft, and not to forget his slow start, it's impressive he moved up all the way to 9th for the VHL draft. His hard work paid off when he pushed out Boris Boris from the net and made it the Hextall show from their and into the playoffs. His play in the playoffs were nothing to scoff at and his shutout in game 6 against the Reapers shows he can come up big in important moments. While the team may have fallen out in round 2, it was understandable as the team faced what was quite possibly the best VHLM team of all time, and Hextall was pelted by 40 or more shots in 4 of the 5 games. Hextall took the loss to heart and uses it as a reason to get better every day. While his drop to 32nd overall in the VHLM draft may be worrying, it's possible it was more to do with VHLM GM's not being sure if he was gonna move up to the VHL or not, as we now know he won't be. He wants more time to practice and flesh out his play as he still has some weaknesses in his game. A good choice by the Rookie goaltender. Pro-balanced play style: Hextall has made it a habit of his to practice all aspects of his game, he does the same amount of training for rebound control, catching, positioning, puck handling when he needs to, keeping his reaction time sharp, while it is possible to say this is a con of his due to no one style of his game being stronger than the other, I think most GM's will like his well roundness. pro-very tall: There's no hiding that in today's hockey that GM's like tall goaltenders, and Jaxx is tall, and more importantly he's shown he knows how to use that to his benefit. con-hot temper: Coming from the Hextall family it's no surprise that Jaxx can lose his cool at times, and it can cost his team an unneeded penalty. He's been able to stay cool for the most part but do beware of his temper. con-over focusing: Most rookie players tend to have the opposite problem as Jaxx, not being able to focus enough. For Jaxx his focus on the puck is so strong that when the puck takes any kind of weird bounce or doesn't do what he thinks it's gonna do, he tends to overreact and let in a easy or bad looking goal, he can look absolutely dumb founded. While we no doubt love his high focus on the puck it would help for him to be able to adapt better when the puck takes a weird bounce.
