Team Scandinavia celebrating a gold medal win in Season 26

 

Team Scandinavia has always been known as a powerhouse in the World Cup Stage, and for four straight World Cups, Scandinavia (formerly known as Sweden) was nearly impossible to beat in the World Cup.  From Season 20 to Season 26, Scandinavia won four straight gold medals.  However, that steamed from a medal streak that started Season 12 after a last place finish in Season 10.  

 

One name that was prominent in the four year gold streak was former Defenseman Kristian Carlsson.  Carlsson participated in his first world cup in Season 18, his pre-draft season.  Scandinavia would come away with the bronze medal, beating Switzerland in the bronze medal game.  After Season 18, Scandinavia would go on to beat Canada three times, and the United Kingdom once in the Gold Medal Games.  Carlsson would be the only player to compete in all four gold medal games.  

 

"We had a great group of guys each year, and some familiar faces each season.  It was easy to develop chemistry each time because of familiarity." - Carlsson.

 

The seven year medal streak came to an end in Season 28 when Scandinavia lost to the United States in the Bronze Medal game.   They would end up in fourth again in Season 30, before reclaiming the top spot in Season 32, beating the United States in the gold medal game.  In Season 34, they would end up in fourth after a shocking loss to the Soviet Union.  With the Season 37 World Cup coming up, Scandinavia will look to add another gold to it's already impressive collection.
