Greg_Di 1,028
Nobody makes it as a goalie in the VHL without a lot of tutelage along the way. Wolves goalie, Greg Eagles, has had plenty of that. Through the halfway point of the VHL season, Eagles has the second most wins, 2nd best save %, tied for first in shutouts and leads in GAA for a Wolves team that is sitting second in the league. Everything right now is going well for the keeper. He is having the best season of his career and his name has been mentioned in the most recent VHL award race for the Greg Clegane and Aidan Shaw. The battle for the Greg Clegane and Aidan Shaw has been up and down all season with 4 goalies vying out to win the trophy. Finn Davison, JB Rift and Rayz Funk have all been leading in one of the categories at some point. At this point in time it will be hard to determine who can pull it off as all these goalies had some great streaks but also some terrible streaks that have dropped them down in the standings. Most oddsmakers have Funk retaining the awards but his most recent games has caused him to slip down the standings. Don’t count him out though as he has a solid team in front of him and can bounce back quickly. But Eagles, now in his 3rd year as a full time starter, may not be in the position he’s in today (challenging for awards) as one of the top goalies in the league if not for the lessons he learned as a backup during his first season in the league. Before Eagles became a starter he was the backup to Ismond Kingfisher, who was a well known and veteran goalkeeper when he joined the Wolves. While Greg did not know how soon he would become a starter, he made sure to learn everything he could from the veteran goalkeeper. “ He showed me the pressure of how to handle playing in the league “ Said Eagles “Watching him play day in and day out made it easy to learn about the VHL, about the players and how to handle yourself on and off the ice. Now I am trying to pass what I learned down to Spyro so that he may be successful in the future” Since he became starter, Eagles, has been improving every year. The only thing missing right now out of his cabinet is individual awards and him leading the team to a cup final. “When I won the cup with the Wolves it was as a backup, I want to take the Wolves to the cup on my own and I believe that this will be the year “ Eagles said “For me and for most of the team it is cup or bust” The Wolves are currently enjoying great Defense and Goaltending as they lead the league in the fewest allowed goals with just 100 in 44 games. The Wolves will be looking to grab top stop from Moscow in the next couple weeks as they continue their 4 game winning streak.
