The S37 World Cup is four games deep and the most startling thing is the undefeated run thus far of the Mercenaries team. Dubbed "reject" by the other countries in the World Cup most analysts projected the Mercs to compete to try and upset some other teams. Some felt they had potential to compete for bronze if they could squeak out just enough wins. But early on in this tournament the team has competed with heart, pride, grit, toughness. Some games their offense shines, others their defense. Brick Wahl has had to stand on his head in a game. But ultimately the Mercs have come together to beat the four projected top teams in the tournament en route to their current 4-0 record.

That is right, they have beaten Canada, USA, Europe and Scandinavia. The Mercs have yet to play Team World but right now they sit atop the mountain in the World Cup and have left many analysts scratching their heads. TSN Analyst Bob Mckenzie broke down just why he thinks the Mercs have won.

"They haven't quit on any game. They could be down, a team could seem to snatch momentum right from their finger tips but they manage to get it back. Two of their wins have come in shootouts but those games don't even get to that point if the Mercs quit. Something they have shown they are just not willing to do. On top of that they are working more as a unit than any single other team in the tournament. Too often a lot of teams in International tournaments get filled with ego's and players who believe they can do it themselves. The lack of a real "superstar" on the Merc roster has seemed to create this real team first atmosphere in their entire approach to the game. They play hard gutsy hockey and a lot of that can also be attributed to the coaching selection. After seeing his work with Latvia in this years Olympics and with Buffalo in the NHL the Mercs got Ted Nolan to come in to help turn them from reject into spoiler."
