SlapshotWrangler 864
CALGARY - Jacques Lafontaine was one of the biggest prospects in the Season 70 draft. He had come off a stellar season with the Saskatoon Wild who had a historic season as they dominated the Victory Hockey League Minors. The young netminder backstopped the Wild throughout that season as they eventually won the Founder's Cup as the champions of the VHLM. There was some belief that his great stats and his overall good play was only a byproduct of the amazing skaters and players that the Wild were loaded up on. Regardless, Jacques Lafontaine was still a relatively big prospect and was eventually drafted 4th overall by the Calgary Wranglers. The team was in need of some goaltending after losing both Brick Wahl and Fang Flashback, so along with JB Rift, they got Jacques to be their backup goalie. He played well in his first season in the Victory Hockey League but he only got to play the required 8 backup goalie games. However, he has done well in those 8 games as he has a record of 6-1-1, a 0.916 save percentage, and 2.45 goals against average. "Yeah, kind of tough not starting but it's a good chance for me to focus on developing. It also gives me the opportunity to observe what goalies in the big leagues do and to learn from what I watch. JB has taught me some valuable things. He's also been great for us this season and I think I speak for all of the team when I say we are really lucky to have him. This guy has been a big part of our success lately and he will continue to be a big part of this team." While it's safe to say that Jacques Lafontaine will be riding the pine during, he's learning a lot and is getting better as time goes on. Whether he will start next year or not is still a mystery but right now, he is focused on the present. "I mean, I can only control what I do now, right? So why would I worry so much about the future?" Calgary has been successful and is continuing to have success in the playoffs and Jacques Lafontaine has the best seat in the house. He believes that the team has gotten really good thanks to their practices and that this won't be the end of their success. "I don't think this will be a one-time wonder kind of thing. I personally think we are capable of doing this for a long time. I'm not saying that a dynasty is guaranteed but it's not out of grasp either. We have good guys in this teams. The veterans are a big part of our team but our young guys are also really talented and hard-working. They've shown the league that they are ready to step up to the plate and take their chances. I can see us going to big places in the future and winning some championships along the way."
