CGY and Moscow Trade Games In First 2 Of Finals

Perhaps, in fitting fashion, the Calgary Wranglers and Moscow Menace opened their series with a pair of mirroring games in terms of results. In Game 1, Calgary was able to upset the Menace with a 2-0 shutout for goalie JB Rift. It was a relatively close, but decently high shot game that saw both goalies play pretty good as each team put more than 30 shots on net. 

 

The second game came down to the wire, as it was scoreless heading into the third with both goalies again playing as lights out as possible to try and give their teams a chance in these pivotal playoff games. But this time it was Raymond Bernard posting the shutout as Moscow was able to put 2 past Rift and take the second game of the series, responding with their own 2-0 win. Neither team hit the 30 shot mark in the second game but it was equally a relatively close shot margin. 

 

Heading into the 3rd game the gauntlet now seems open for what narrative this series can take. The pressure is going to be on both goaltenders to try to keep their stellar play up, and one slip up could easily cost a team a pivotal game. Likewise, the biggest question has to be will the shot totals remain equal? Moscow was the leagues best offense, and Calgary the best defense. And while Moscow has technically outshot Calgary this series, it was only by 3 and 4 shots in the two games. That isn't the edge that some thought they would have. If things continue at this pace it's a pretty open ended series, where either team could steal it in tight games. Stay tuned to the Finals action to see how this narrative continues to play out.
