For recently drafted winger, Andrew Erikson, as well as the plethora of young talent taken in the VHLM Dispersal Draft, the VHLM goes from a far off dream to a reality over night. No longer does the anxiety of combines and workouts dwell within the head of all the eligible draftees, now only adjusting to their new cities, teams, trainers, and coaches become the direct focus for these young athletes gnawing away at their dreams to lace up under the big lights of the VHL.

That being said, for many, adjustment to the new city, team, trainers, and coaches is much easier for players used to the culture of North American hockey, whereas for the newly drafted Europeans, this cultural dissonance is just another hurdle needing to be leaped over before acclimation to the new environment can happen.

Andrew Erikson, the 11th overall pick for the Ottawa Lynx, was interviewed shortly after his name was called and has been the subject of the now famous quip that has been making it's rounds around the web: "All the pros warn you about the crazy media, faster ice, greasy food, and grumpy people here in North America. They have all told me to be careful because it is much different here, than it is in Denmark. But, I wish somebody would have warned me about the sh*tty music on the radio. I am going to need to buy an iPod and fill it with musicians who do not spell their names with forms of currency."
