Those of you who were around during the early 30s may remember the betrayal of Skylar Rift against the Calgary Wranglers. Rift was traded from the Americans for a strong package, which included eventual first ballot hall of famer Ryan Sullivan, with the understanding that he'd be the new franchise goalie. During the following seasons Rift took his plans into a different direction. After leaving for free agency at the end of his rookie contract, Rift found a home with the Quebec City Meute where he eventually lead them to a cup. At the same time that Rift joined the Meute, they traded for Wesley Kellinger in the hopes that he'd be a franchise player as well.

The Meute were a bit more successful than the Wranglers with their trade, because Rift was only a part of the Wranglers for a season, but Kellinger's recent move to New York via free agency may have screwed the Meute more than Rift ever did to the Wranglers.

When Rift left the Wranglers the team had a lot of resources available, and they were able to stave off a rebuild for a short time with a few cup runs. Kellinger left the Meute right before a rebuild, and took Tuomas Tukio with him. Tomas Valiq also retired shortly after Kellinger's departure, and Quebec finds themselves out of players and out of options.

"I don't regret the decision at all," Kellinger was quoted as saying. I came to this team to help bring them the franchises first cup, and I did that. The extra time they got out of me was a kindness, but when Skylar Rift retired I knew I would not be coming back. I've always wanted to play for New York, especially given how my predecessor was a huge part of their history. Braxton was a big deal in New York, and I'd like to make my mark on that team. It'll also be nice to reunite the Snow and Power agencies. Braxton spent time in New York with Rauno Pajari, I was in Quebec with Rift, and now I'll be centering Logan Laich in New York. I hope to give him a successful sophomore season."
