A mere four days ago the NFL and VHL held their draft on the same night.  It was a surprise to no one that the VHL had the bigger audience and following as the notably superior league.  What may shock people though is that after just four days of the Season 38 Draft we are already starting to talk about the Season 39 Draft.  The VHL is quite the cyclical league and as Season 38 approaches a few teams already know that the Season 39 Draft is their best chance because this season is a lost cause.

Anyway as time moves on and the big rig of scouting starts too slowly churn into motion like a train we will learn everything about these prospects.  Where they went to school, what they eat for breakfast and even their dead goldfish from when they were little nothing gets past the VHL scouts.  Right now though the only thing we know is who is in the draft and if they were at all successful in high school or random minor leagues.

Before we get into what we know about this new crop of draftees we want to look back just a little.  We want to see overall how the class is looking thus far in terms of potential depth and superstar status.  At any given time the Season 38 Draft Class had about 8-12 players who were showing signs of improvement.  We also know that the draft had more than 30 players in it enough to fill a full three rounds of players.

So far the Season 39 VHL Draft Class has 19 players signed up according to the S39 Draftee List.  Of those 19 potential VHLers we have a good 13 who have already shown signs of improvement since declaring for the draft.  This gives us currently an on par number of potential active draftees but overall we are lacking in sheer number.  Since the VHL has expanded to ten teams we have always been able to fill a full three rounds.  It is the responsibility of every league official to bring in new talent to help the league grow.

All is not lost though for those who are not familiar with the VHL Draft Rankings we don’t have the absolute most up to date numbers on prospects.  We use the S39 Draftee List which is updated on occasion by Victor usually weekly and currently doesn’t have the list of all draftees especially in the last few days.  The list also doesn’t yet notate which draftees have attended the most recent VHL off-season workout programs.

Without further delay onto a brief talk about the draft as we know it so far.  The Season 37 Draft had top end talent in Tom Slaughter and Slaeter Fjorsstrom that we may have never seen before.  This draft is has a couple of prospects in Mikkel Boomgaarden and Jackson Miller who have that same kind of amazing top end talent.  After them there are three other top five first round talent prospects in Tyrone Williams, Tyson Stokes, and Koji Yamazaki.

Some interesting prospects with previous agents in the league are Splorg Hansburgersteinewalden (boulder) and Milos Denis (Tyler).  In addition to the top end talent and returning agents there is a good amount of new agents who have already started to gain some notoriety.  These players that will make or break the draft are Hunter Backenbauer, Braxton Hunter, Dylan Raseri, and Lights Brokan.

Stay tuned for future editions where we get to know the players more.  We can also follow the season and find which prospects make it through the grind of a season to see their name called into the history of the VHL.  What we know so far though is the first round of the draft looks pretty good but we do need some more prospects.  As far as the positional breakdown last draft saw an amazing defensive draft class Season 39 only has four so far.  This looks to be an offensive heavy draft with only one goalie that has shown any promise either.
