Europe Wins Gold with Dominant Win vs Asia.

Uhtred saved his best game for the gold medal game scoring a goal to go along with three Assists in Europe's gold medal game.   It was by far the best game for Uhtred as he only had a total of 9 points in the round robin.  Team Europe totally dominated Asia winning the game 7-3 and outshooting Asia 62-42.   The Medal winning goal was scored by Bob Helminen 5:54 into the second period.  The eventual game winning goal came in somewhat controversial fashion as it went to video review.  Upon further review it was determined that the puck clearly crossed the line and that made it 4-2 for the europeans.    Asia scored to make it a one goal game early in the third period giving team Asia hopes of a comeback.   However goals by Jim Bob and Uhtred just 26 seconds apart  shut down any attempts at a comeback by Asia.   With 9:03 left Derek Eriksson put the final nail in the coffin on the powerplay to make it 7-3.  With such a big lead European fans were able to start the party early and will be party late into the night

 

This was Uhtred's second world junior and it was his last shot at a title.  With the win Uhtred now has a shot at the triple gold club having won the founders cup with Saskatchewan in his VHLM draft year.  The bears are currently 3 points out of first with a game in hand which makes the Bears a strong contender for the continental cup this season.

It's actually just a bonus - Triple Gold Club is Founder's Cup, World Cup, and Continental Cup.
