Before the Season 38 campaign got underway, the Saskatoon Wild made a slightly quiet announcement only really known to team officials and personal. Longtime VHL General Manager and VHL Hall-of-Famer joined the ranks of the VHLM by agreeing to a position as Assistant General Manager in Saskatoon. Kendrick had recently resigned from his position as Cologne Express GM a season before. The main purpose of the move was actually well constructed and Kendrick had been in contact with Saskatoon for quite awhile.

"I had been speaking with Brett (Slobodzian) ever since stepping down with Cologne. Brett was totally understanding about my position and how much responsibilities I want to actually carry. My main goal in Saskatoon is to help with development in the young players and help them have solid careers come their first pro season. I feel I have a lot more to give and at a base level can help new players in achieving their goals. I am in no way the figurehead in Saskatoon and hope to work alongside my longtime buddy in Brett", said Joey when interviewed.

Kendrick sees the assistant role as a permanent spot and has no plans to move into the main seat or get back into full time managing. It sounds as though Saskatoon was looking for more knowledge of the league and added a longtime VHL member to their office.
