An offseason interview with Jimmy Spyro about the expansion draft

Recommended Posts

I have been approached by many members from around the league recently, and everyone seems to be quite curious on my thoughts for the upcoming expansion draft. A few of those same members also asked for my opinion on where I think I will end up this season, be it Vancouver again or possibly an expansion team. So I went over to the local presses and gave them a few comments.

Reporter: “Good afternoon James, it’s a pleasure to finally get an interview with you after these past couple season’s. If you don’t mind, I want to dive into this as you’ve become quite a hot topic this offseason.”

Spyro: “Yeah for sure- I’m happy to be back hear and I’ll answer whatever I can.”

Reporter: “Of course. Alright so with the expansion draft coming, are you confident that you will be exempt? Nobody has heard for sure but I imagine the Vancouver organization has contacted you about this by now.”

Spyro: “I haven’t been told anything from management. I never thought I would have any doubts about playing on the Wolves for the rest of my career- but I honestly don’t know if I’m exempt from the expansion draft. There’s only 1 person who knows and he likes to keep his cards close to the chest, so I’m just waiting to hear about it like the rest of the team.”

Reporter: “I figured you either didn’t know yet or would refuse to say, but I still had to ask. I imagine not having any clarity would raise concerns or even cause some unnecessary distractions while you are busy preparing for the next season. I personally think you are too elite of a goaltender to not be protected from the expansion draft, and I would be very surprised otherwise.”

Spyro: “Without any clarity I don’t have a feeling of certainty like I did before, and the worry of being “Marc-Andre Flurry’d” does linger in the back of my head. I just want to focus on preparing for the next season.”

Reporter: “Doubt is a very uncomfortable feeling, and for any star players in the league it can be an unnecessary distraction.”

Spyro: “I feel nobody is ever truly safe from any situation, so I just want to make the best of my time to improve like I have every season and offseason before.”

Reporter: “Fair enough. Before you go I have 1 last question for you about the expansion team’s if that’s alright.”

Spyro: “As long as it isn’t “which team I would rather” then sure.”

Reporter: “Hahaha no no no, I just want to hear your thoughts on having these teams join the league.”

Spyro: “I like the idea of more competition and I love that the league is growing. As for my thoughts on the teams in the expansion, I think it’s pretty cool to have more variety across the VHL, they got some cool logos, and I’m excited to see how they all build their teams.”

Reporter: “I’m sure these are the thoughts of many across the league, and James it’s been a pleasure chatting with you again. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy training regiment to come down here and talk about your thoughts on the expansion.”

Spyro: “Thanks for having me on. I look forward to seeing how everything plays out.”

Reporter: “You and me both, Spyro! Alright so that wraps up this interview and I hope you all stick around for more info about the VHL!! After this commercial break.”

Sorry that I don’t have any actual info for you guys, and I’m very excited to see what is to come for this season, regardless of what happens.

I still enjoyed this read, and I know nothing about your guy or really much about how VHL works (as opposed to VHLM). It was good! It was a great interview format with good questions. I would think that Marc Andre-Fleury got a decent deal, didn't he? I mean since he went to the Stanley Cup. This was well done, so what I am about to say is crazy nit-picky and pretty much only personal preference: I thought it would have been better if, since this reads like a transcript, there were not quotation marks. I would've liked to hear a little more about your experience with the Wolves--why you might make a logical choice to stay or go. I'll definitely be reading more from you in the future, I'm sure! Score: 8.5/10
