So I haven't wrote much here lately. With the big Rona kinda dominating all our lives, I'm sure it's no surprise to say that my main focus has been elsewhere. Crossing our fingers that things do start to get better and maybe go somewhat back to normal. I don't think this virus is going away completely anytime soon. Any who, I guess this needs to have some VHL stuff to be claimed so here goes.

The career of Dan Wilinsky, my first player was middling at best in my mind. He retired with the 12th or somewhere around there total tpe all time and for all that tpe, the ultimate goal of the VHL Hall of Fame is likely a longshot. Not that his career was all that bad in hindsight. A VHLM championship in S62 on a great Lynx team and then winning a VHL title in S69 as a Seattle Bear is fair from disappointing.

The first half of Dan's career was in a promising but eventually doomed New York rebuild, tally 30+ goals every season and finally helping the club to a couple playoff spots. After that, his remaining years ended up being as a bit of a nomad and hired gun. A season and a half on a loaded Helsinki team, which produced the best numbers of Wilinsky's career as well as his only individual award.

With only 2 seasons left, trying to win a championship was first and foremost on my mind. Seattle made a great free agent pitch by trading for my rights and being the defending champs already, it seemed like as safe a bet as any. Although there were a few other offers that made me hesitate, Seattle was the best choice. Facing salary constraints after another run, Wilinsky in his old age was the easy one to deal and I ended up in Malmo, reunited with several of my old New York teammates.

Wilinsky's last season was disappointing, with a team that had the pieces to be very good, but just couldn't string any momentum or any consistent wins together, they narrowly missed the playoffs. Dan's own play was poor and considering he was brought into lead the Nighthawks, failing to do so kinda left a bad taste in my mouth about his VHL career in general.

Looking back though, it was a pretty good run and considering I had no clue how to build a player properly, it wasn't so bad for a first gen. S63 Draft class goat squad. Or something.

Player 2 is Randy Marsh, and he is definitely a meme build. As much as I want him to kill it, I have 0 expectations for him. Probably for the better. With wedding rescheduling and getting back into the flow at work and GMing in 2 other leagues, I'm definitely not earning at the same rate as Wilinsky did. The plan is still to play a full 8 years in Seattle and then re-evaluate. Even though I'm not as active as I once was, the VHL was still my first player control sim since Goalline Blitz and made me fall in love with sim leagues again.

So happy birthday VHL. Hope you have many more ahead of you
