Dream Family Team

@chatfan036 and I have been members of the VHL since Season 25 or so. Throughout our tenure here, we've each had many players - most of them good, but some of them bad. On the whole, I believe @chatfan036 has had more total players than me, and maybe even more "good" players, but he's had more "bad" players and I definitely have had the "best" player. For this season's theme week, I'm going to be creating a Family Dream Team comprising of players that we've created. Ironically, this team has 3 of my players and 3 of @chatfan036's players. Without further adieu, my dream team is:

Tim TebowGow - Robin Gow - Gritty

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen - Shayne Gow

Kevin Malone

Tim TebowGow - Unfortunately, it's way too annoying to look up statistics on players that aren't on the portal, so some of the descriptions for these players are going to come mostly from memory and whatever a quick search through the old indexes shows. Tim TebowGow was a S44 player who may or may not have been a GM player for Calgary. According to @chatfan036, TTG was his best winger. I don't know what his stats were, but he won the Founder's Cup in S43 with the Bern Royals and won two Continental Cups. His first continental cup was in S44 with Calgary. I believe @chatfan036was GM of this team, but I am not 100% sure. TTG also won a continental cup in S48 with Toronto.  Rounding out his trophies was a Dustin Funk (Most Improved) trophy in S46. The other contenders for the last forward spot on the roster were Jeff Gow and Robin Gow III. Jeff had a very average to above average career, but he wasn't a bad player. RGIII had a ton of TPE and won at least 1, if not 2 continental cups, but the individual stats weren't there for the majority of his career.

Robin Gow - This was my second player and the first player that put me "on the map" in the VHL. Drafted 2nd overall in the S36 VHL Entry Draft by the Riga Reign, Robin was just on the cusp of not quite being a true superstar or hall of fame player, but was a top player for the Reign during his career. When he retired, I believe Robin finished 3rd in Riga history in assists and 5th in points. Robin won a Continental Cup with the team in S40. Towards the end of his career, Robin was traded to the Cologne Express, where he led their second line on a stacked team that won the S42 Continental Cup. Robin was always towards the top in points and assists, but never quite a league leader.

Gritty - @chatfan036's most recent player, Gritty was in the same mold of Robin, but probably wasn't quite as good at his peak. Gritty was selected 4th overall in the S65 Draft by the Vancouver Wolves and won a continental cup with the team in S67. However, after 3 years, Gritty was traded to HC Davos Dynamo, where he joined another player on this list, Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen. Gritty then joined the Moscow Menance in free agency and ended up spending 3 years with the team, culminating with a continental cup in S70. From there, Gritty signed with the Vancouver Wolves in free agency for his last season, but nothing of note happened. At the end of his career, Gritty's stat line was 577 GPs, 181 goals, 222 assists, 403 points, and a -16 rating. While these numbers may not seem impressive compared to the VHL's history as a hole, for the time period he played in, those numbers were quite good.

Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen - My best player and the best player on this team, Smitty was selected 2nd overall by HC Davos Dynamo in the S65 VHL Entry Draft. Smitty would spend 4 seasons in Davos, and while they didn't win any team trophies, Smitty would win an Alexander Valiq (best offensive defenseman) and Sterling Labatte (best defenseman). In S69, Smitty became a free agent and signed with Moscow, where he and the team enjoyed a large amount of success. The team won the continental cup in S70, but between S69 and S70, Smitty won the Labatte twice, the Wylde (top defensive defenseman), Beketov (most assists?) Valiq, and the Brett Slobodzian (most outstanding player). Due to a cap crunch, Smitty would be forced to leave the team for his last season. In S72, Smitty signed with the Vancouver Wolves, but after a disappointing start to the season, was traded to the Calgary Wranglers. Smitty was inducted to the Hall of Fame in S73, his first year of eligibility.

Shayne Gow - I can't find a ton about this player on the portal, so I am primarily going by memory on this one. Shayne was selected 9th overall by the Helsinki Titans in S49. I thought he played in the VHL this season, but he might have spent an extra season in the minors. He made his debut with the Titans in S50. He was then traded to Seattle in S51, and somehow ended up on Calgary in S52. I think he was traded, but am not 100% sure. I do know that he signed with Helsinki in free agency in S53, because I remember @Higginswas one of the only GMs to reach out to me about my player. Shayne would stay in Helsinki for the rest of his career (S53-S55) and won back to back continental cups in S54 and S55. On the whole, Shayne was an above average offensive defenseman, but nothing to write home about.

Kevin Malone - Goaltending is easily the worst position on this team. The only other option would be Bernie Gow, but he was so bad, we're not going to write about him. He wasn't even "bad" in the sense that I didn't earn enough TPE on him - he just never performed to expectations relative to his TPE. But anyway, this is about Kevin Malone, @chatfan036's current player. Malone was drafted 18th overall by London United in the S74 VHL Entry Draft. Malone has not yet made his VHL debut, spending an extra season in the minors. His S73 season with Halifax was very bad, but his S74 is currently very good. That's all Kevin Malone gets, because he's still a minor league player (but he's still better than Bernie was!)
