The regular season is now over and as we head into the playoffs, we will be following the Las Vegas Aces as they make their push for the cup.  The Aces came into this year's playoffs as the top seed in the west, and 2nd seed overall, so they have to be considered as a serious cup contender. Their round 1 opponent were the 7th seed Mexico City Kings, let’s see how the series went.

The series was won in 5 games by the Las Vegas Aces who will advance to the next round of the playoffs. Winning in the series in 5 games might suggest the Aces had an easy time out against the Kings but it was a very tight, hard fought series, with 3 out of the 5 games being won by only a single goal. The difference between the 2 teams was the quality of depth in the Vegas roster, and although it was mainly their 1st and 2nd lines putting up the points, the bottom six still had real quality and they played their part in limiting scoring chances for Mexico City.

That potent Vegas top line of Rush, Rhynex and Reynolds once again dominated the scoresheet as they contributed 11 of the 19 goals and combined for a total of 26 points in this series. If anyone wants to beat Vegas, they are going to need to figure out how to stop this line from scoring.

So that concludes this short review of round 1 for the Las Vegas Aces. Thanks for tuning in and we’ll see you at the end of round 2.
