NHL DRAFT COVERAGE: The Colton Point Draft Experience (VIDEO) - BayToday.ca

Usually around this time we would be interviewing Greg Eagles about the upcoming season, but since Greg is now retired we will continue this segment with his son, who has recently joined the VHLM.

R: Welcome Tom, great to have another Eagles to continue our segment

T: It's great to be here and happy to take over the torch

R: You flew out to Riga to watch your dads playoff series, only to watch him and Riga bow out early in the playoffs. How did that feel?
T: I felt bad for Greg and the rest of the Riga team. They deserved so much more and definitely deserved another run for the cup. They had 3 great players playing in their last season so it would have been a great story if they would have won it all. I am happy with the Riga fans though as they came out in full force and gave all 3 standing ovations. That's something I hope I can have when I retire, the respect of the fans.

R: That is great to hear, now lets move on more to your career. With the VHLM draft coming up, have any teams reached out to you or do you have a preference of where you want to play?
T: A few teams have reached out asking about what I think of their teams and how I could fit in but to me I have no preference of where I want to go. Wherever I go I want to be able to step in and help the team out immediately. Being in the VHLM, I will be happy to play for any team that wants me. I am open to coming back to San Diego and also open to playing somewhere else. It's all up to the draft now to see where I will be calling my home for the next season

R: What are some of your goals for next season?
T: My goal is to be one of the top defenders in the VHLM and have my VHL draft stock rise. My father, while I believe was a steal in the 2nd round, never had the opportunity to be drafted in the first round and I want to do that him. I want to be the first Eagle's to go in the first round. In order for me to do that I have to keep training and focus on my defensive game. I want to become a great two-way defender so that I can contribute on both ends of the ice.

R: What about career goals?
T: My top career goal is to make it to the HOF and to help my team win as many cups as possible. I have always wanted to see the Eagles name in the HOF and I could potentially be the first to have that happen if everything works out. There are many great players in the league but I don't want to be just great...I want to be one of the greatest and focusing on that goal early will help me achieve this in the future.

R: It's great to hear a young player being so ambitious and willing to put in the work to get there. We wish you the best of luck in the upcoming draft Tom
T: Thank you and it has been a pleasure speaking with you
