Guest
So first of all, thanks for making time for me and now onto the first question. Davos is strugling right now, sitting in 7th of the European conference and not making the playoffs for two straight years. Should we expect a rebuild coming your way, or do you still believe in this team? We've definitely got a future! Our roster is young enough to keep what we have moving forward for a while, and I'd argue a good chunk of a future core was picked up in the last draft. I know Hedge put out an article saying we're in a bit of a weird situation--and I'd agree with that. I will say that a few solid moves will likely need to be made to make Davos good for at least the next few seasons, but there's nothing to say that that can't happen. As for this season, the sims have been mean to us, but we just recently put up a good string of wins and we're not out of it by any means. Soren-Jensen is curentlly the best producer of Davos. Are you happy with his performances so far? Did you expect a bit more from Owen Nolan, who bad a great last season? I'm very happy with Jensen this season; he had his best production last season and I'm excited to see whether he can match it or beat it this time around. Nolan was a player who I did expect to drop off a bit--he's in his last season and going through regression, and his numbers were arguably inflated a bit from his time in last-place New York last season. So, it's fair to say that he wouldn't be as high up on the stat sheet as he was, and he still fills a good role for us so I'm not complaining. How big loss was retirement of your last seasons goalie Rayz Funk? Do you think that Joakim Bruden can help team as much, as Funk did? It's always very tough to judge goalies with our sim engine, because I've seen lower-TPE goalies do great and higher-TPE goalies not have the greatest of performances. Funk will go down as one of the greatest in recent memory, but his last season wasn't incredibly impressive from a statistical standpoint. On paper, sure, I'd rather have a 900-some-TPA goalie than a 500-some. But the best anyone can do in any given season is to hope their goalie happens to be on the good side of the sims--Bruden's faced a lot of shots this season, and with his agent being more active in our locker room lately, I think I've got a player I can be proud of. Now let's talk about your first round pick, Taro Tsujimoto. He had a massive season with Missisauga scoring 50 goals and having total of 11o points. Are you happy with his performances so far? Do you think that he could be the face of the franchise as his career progresses? Well, I never expected to dominate in my first season--I'm playing myself on the second line and I'm lower in TPE than most others at the moment. It's certainly fair to say that Taro has potential, as I'm on top of the draft class in TPE and I'm coming in as a more experienced member than the first-gen player I was with Jerry Garcia. Later on in his career, I'm absolutely expecting great things out of him, but for the moment we'll have to sit back and wait for that to come around. Who would you say, is the absolute leader of the team if we talk about things happening off-ice? This is a tough one, because we've got a few. I'm going to have to go with Tyler Walker (@Advantage) for this. I could have given this to a few others on the team without question, but ADV was my first-ever VHL GM and he taught me quite a bit about how things work on the big level. Bringing him in this season was a great move for our locker room, and as the most experienced VHL member on our team, he's brought a lot of knowledge and leadership with him. Ok, thanks for your time and good luck in the rest of the season and ofcourse throughout your career with Tsujimoto. Moderator Baozi 1,664 Posted December 11, 2020 Moderator Share Posted December 11, 2020 Nice interview. Good content with nice formatting. The bolding and usage of italics along with the spacing made it easy to read through. Could use some colors, pictures and maybe a header for the body itself though. 8/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/96453-interview-with-davis-gm-gustavmattias/#findComment-805078 Share on other sites
