RomanesEuntDomus 442
Collier Prepares For Life After Hockey, becomes Player Agent “Yeah I admit it, sometimes I feel old when I try to get out of bed and the bones in my body hurt way more than they did just a few years ago”, David Collier tells the reporters with a laugh on his face, “I definitely feel the impact of a tough game longer now than I did when I was younger and was able to regenerate basically over night. And when I realized that, it suddenly made me wonder where all the years went…” Collier’s smile still looks as young as ever, but when you look at the rest of his face, the years are starting to show. The occasional grey hair, a wrinkle here and there – Collier, now in his mid-thirties, is far from an old man, but he isn’t exactly one of the young guys either anymore and he knows that: “I know that my career won’t last forever and at this stage, every injury could mean the end of my days as a hockey player. I think that I still have at least one or two good years in me, but there is no guarantee for that. So I decided to start preparing for life after hockey a while back.” There are many fields a former hockey player can try to get into if he wants to stay in the game, be it a coaching job, a front office position or a second career in the media. Collier, on the other hand, has decided to go into a different field: “It was a process that went on for over a year but I sat down with a bunch of great hockey people I know here in Germany as well as coaches, scouts and old friends from my days in Canada. Some of them were already in the business of managing players, but always on a rather small scale, so we decided to concentrate all these efforts into one player agency that I will be working with full-time when my playing days are over”, Collier explains. “I personally want to do all I can to promote hockey, especially youth hockey, here in Germany and help German players find their way into the VHLM and eventually the VHL. But my efforts won’t just be limited to German players, if a young motivated player is looking for representation, we will always consider taking him under our wings, no matter where he is from. There are so many players in countries all over Europe for example that don’t get much exposure because their home country don’t have a strong system of developmental leagues, and we will do all we can to help out these players. Basically if you are motivated, determined and loyal, we will do everything we can to help you get your hockey career going. Honestly as much as I like playing the game and hope that I continue for at least a few more years, I can’t wait for this next chapter of my career to start!” We will be back next week with a first look at some of the players Collier's new agency will represent, so stay tuned!
