Regular Season Power rankings Part 4 (S20 - S59)

Recommended Posts

We are nearing the current state of the league as now we are gone through Season 20 to Season 59 which is 40 seasons. Let's look at who is tops in win percentage and records through 40 seasons.

1 - New York Americans - Previously 1st

2,880 GP - 1,633 W - 1,060 L - 187 OTL - 3,470 P - 8,473 GF - 7,455 GA - 2.94 GFA - 2.59 GAA - 26 Playoffs - 14 Playoff Misses - 5 Victory Cup Wins - 0.567 Win %

New York retains top spot with 1,633 wins, making them the only team through 40 seasons with over 1,600 wins. However, they only managed 369 wins over the 50's which is not as dominant as they were in the 40's. The Americans also missed the playoffs 5 times and made them 5 times meaning they were average for the most part. New York though is still 70 wins better than number 2 on the list which shows how far they have come since the 20's. The Americans also are the one of two teams to score over 8000 goals and are tied with the least amount of goals against with 2.59.

2 - Helsinki Titans - Previously 3rd

2,880 GP - 1,561 W - 1,108 L - 211 OTL - 3,346 P - 8,130 GF - 7,481 GA - 2.82 GFA - 2.60 GAA - 24 Playoffs - 16 Playoff Misses - 5 Victory Cup Wins - 0.542 Win %

Helsinki moves back up to 2nd after being at 3 last time these came around. The Titans are one of only 2 teams with over 1,500 wins. The Titans won 401 games over the course of the 50's for an average of 40.1 wins per season. They managed to win a single victory cup bumping them up to 5 since season 20 or one every 8 seasons. The Titans also made the playoffs 6 times and missed 4 during the 50's. Overall, it was a good decade for the Titans as they look to close the distance between them and New York.

3 - Quebec City Meute - Previously 4th

2,088 GP - 1,079 W - 842 L - 167 OTL - 2,336 P - 5,823 GF - 5,408 GA - 2.79 GFA - 2.59 GAA - 18 Playoffs - 11 Playoff Misses - 4 Victory Cup Wins - 0.517 Win %

Quebec keeps on climbing as they now reach 3rd on the list after being 4th last time these came out. The Meute were able to win 373 games over the decade for 37.3 wins per season average. The team made the playoffs 6 times and missed 4 times. The Meute are just 212 wins behind the last place team on this list despite playing in 792 less games. That is quite remarkable if you think about it. Quebec has been the best expansion side over the two teams which came in during Season 31.

4 - Toronto Legion - Previously 6th

2,880 GP - 1,479 W - 1,183 L - 218 OTL - 3,190 P - 7,868 GF - 7,937 GA - 2.73 GFA - 2.76 GAA - 23 Playoffs - 17 Playoff Misses - 8 Victory Cup Wins - 0.514 Win %

Toronto made a climb back up into the top half of the league with 417 wins over the decade for an average of 41.7 wins per season. The Legion also added 2 Victory Cups to their already league leading total which is no up to 8 wins or one every 5 seasons. The fact the Legion have won the most Victory Cups but are 4th tells me that they are either really good when they are winning or really bad when they aren't winning, they are one of the two extremes.

5 - Riga Reign - Previously 7th

2,880 GP - 1,456 W - 1,219 L - 205 OTL - 3,133 P - 7,812 GF - 7,541 GA - 2.71 GFA - 2.62 GAA - 26 Playoffs - 14 Playoff Misses - 4 Victory Cup Wins - 0.506 Win %

Riga makes a big climb themselves jumping from 7th to 5th. 436 over the 50's will do that which is an average of 43.6 wins per season. The Reign were also able to add not 1, not 2 but 3 Victory Cup wins over this decade to bring their total to 4. The Reign almost swept the whole decade making the playoffs 9 times and missing just once. It was a great 10 seasons for the Reign as they raised their winning percentage from 0.472 to 0.506.

6 - HC Davos Dynamo - Previously 2nd

2,880 GP - 1,438 W - 1,233 L - 209 OTL - 3,102 P - 7,723 GF - 7,694 GA - 2.68 GFA - 2.67 GAA - 26 Playoffs - 14 Playoff Misses - 5 Victory Cup Wins - 0.499 Win %

Oh how the mighty have fallen, from 1st for two editions to 2nd and now all the way down to 6th. The Dynamo also fall below 0.500 win percentage to 0.499. The Dynamo were only able to win 264 games for an average of 26.4 wins per season. The Dynamo made the playoffs 5 times and missed 5 times but most of the time they were the lowly 3rd seed in a dying league at the time.  Hard times for a once powerful VHL team.

7 - Cologne Express - Previously 5th

1,944 GP - 951 W - 847 L - 146 OTL - 2,051 P - 5,132 GF - 5,211 GA - 2.64 GFA - 2.68 GAA - 15 Playoffs - 12 Playoff Misses - 0 Victory Cup Wins - 0.498 Win %

Cologne is one of the teams I feel that were very hard done by the VHL. The team was on the up when the VHL decided they would be one of the teams to be contracted at the end of Season 57 I think or 58, one of the two. Depite that they were 6th in the league at the time in terms of win percentage and only fell to 7th because of not playing any games. The team was rebuilding at the time and the league figured since it didn't have 'history' it would be one of the teams to get the boot. In their short 50's life they won 246 games for an average of 30ish per season give or take a few. The Express never won a Victory Cup either and at the time were playing in a much harder European Conference then the Meute before the NA rose to power. Once again, the Express are a team I think should come back since Vasteras got like 50 chances.

8 - Calgary Wranglers - Previously 9th

2,880 GP - 1,337 W - 1,352 L - 191 OTL - 2,869 P - 7,744 GF - 8,718 GA - 2.69 GFA - 3.03 GAA - 21 Playoffs - 19 Playoff Misses - 2 Victory Cup Wins - 0.464 Win %

Calgary moves up one spot to 8th following a decade in which they posted 365 wins for an average of 36.5 which is outstanding for the Wranglers. The Wranglers were arguably the best team for the first two decades of the VHL but have since fallen off the cliff posting a 0.464 win percentage and allowing a league worst 8,718 goals for a 3.03 GAA. The Wranglers are one of two teams to allow more than 8,000 goals so far. The Wranglers however, were able to add 1 Victory Cup to their resume in the 50's as well as making the playoffs 7 times and missing only 3 times. Have they turned the corner? Oh yes, on a side note, technically the Stockholm Vikings roster became the Calgary Wranglers due to history. So the Calgary Wranglers were one of the contracted teams but then Stockholm roster was moved over and everything that had to do with Stockholm became Calgary, players, players management etc. However, I will not count Calgary's numbers in Stockholm because that is just a pain in the ass and dumb imo.

9 - Seattle Bears - Previously 10th

2,880 GP - 1,291 W - 1,265 L - 234 OTL - 2,820 P - 7,495 GF - 8,215 GA - 2.60 GFA - 2.85 GAA - 20 Playoffs - 20 Playoff Misses - 4 Victory Cup Wins - 0.448 Win %

Seattle is able to move up to 9th after being last the last time I did these. The Bears won 365 games in the 50's for an average of 36.5 wins per season. The Bears were also able to win 2 Victory Cups during this time which brings their total to 4. The Bears also made the playoffs 5 and missed 5 times. The Bears are slowly starting to dig themselves out of the whole they dug themselves into from the 40's.

10 - Stockholm Vikings - Previously 8th

2,736 GP - 1,216 W - 1,317 L - 203 OTL - 2,632 P - 7,020 GF - 7,772 GA - 2.57 GFA - 2.84 GAA - 16 Playoffs - 22 Playoff Misses - 3 Victory Cup Wins - 0.444 Win %

Ahh Stockholm, we hardly knew yee, the Stockholm Vikings were contracted by relocation in Season 57. The whole roster and management team became the Calgary Wranglers who were technically the team that was lost but it was Stockholm who never played a game again. Judging by their record of under .450 win percentage and 1216-1317-203 with more playoff misses than playoff makes at 16-22 which makes sense. However, they won 3 Victory Cups during this time. Here we are though, here is your last place team and will forever be the last place team it seems. The loveable losers.
