Positivity For Svoboda and his Helsinki Titans

The roller-coaster season that was for Vojczek Svoboda is slowly coming to an end, although with positives in store. Although Svoboda was selected with the first overall selection by the Helsinki Titans during the Season 38 VHL Entry Draft, the Titans, a team that is the midst of a rebuild, struggled mightily, finishing with the second worst record in the VHL with a 19-44-9 record, only behind the lowly Quebec Meute. During the regular season, Vojczek and his Helsinki teammates endured a bag of mixed emotions, but had to remain positive and upbeat and what the potential future may hold. Over the course of the 72 games, the Ostrava, Czech Republic native, rookie and first overall selection finished the campaign with 19 goals and 61 assists for a mere 80 points. Despite his 93 hits and 215 blocked shots, the one area of concern for Vojczek was his plus/minus statistic, where he finished with a disappointing -36 on the season, something that was to be expected on a last place team.

Despite the mixed emotions spurning from the difficult season that was had in Helsinki, coupled with the fact that there is absolutely no chance that Vojczek will get any consideration for the Stolzschweiger Trophy, there are some positives in store for the Helsinki Titans and the promising young rearguard.

For one, the Helsinki Titans, who finished with the second worst record in the VHL, owned the first round selection of the Quebec Meute, who finished with the worst record in the VHL, and so what happened was that the Titans won the draft lottery and will have complete control over who they will select with the first overall selection for the second straight season. On top of that selection, the current young crop of players who just finished their rookie seasons with the Titans and with the prospects in the cupboard waiting in the wings, things are looking bright for the Titans, who have spent the last few seasons mired in obscurity in the European Conference basement.

For Vojczek personally, despite missing the post season with the Titans, the young Czech will have the glorified opportunity to participate in the Super Cup for the first time in his career following a silver medal performance earned last season while playing in the World Cup for Team Europe. Any opportunity to play additional games in the VHL or any opportunity to represent his country or his team are examples that will always be explored by Vojczek. On top of the Super Cup Tournament, there is an outside chance that Svoboda will be in consideration to partake in the annual VHL All-Star Game, something that he would most certainly relish at the opportunity to play in.

The final exciting item on the list is the most recent occurrence and that consists of the Messier Trophy nomination received. Svoboda is among the long list of current candidates for the Messier Trophy, an award handed out to the Top Leader in the VHL. Not only has Vojczek garnered a few votes thus far, but to be really close to collecting some sort of accolade after the season endured would be a tremendous honor and accomplishment. As some of you may or may not know, since the conclusion of the VHL season, Svoboda has encountered his fair share of medical issues, some of which he has hurdled thus far. Times have been trying for the rookie defenseman, but despite all of the hardships, he has remained a leader in the Titans locker room, a positive reinforcement and a willing player who has always tried to help the person beside him better themselves.

Not only are things looking up for Vojczek Svoboda, but for the entire Helsinki Titans organization.

Definitely a tough season for my fellow titties. Although we all know that the future holds great things for our team, it is still tough to endure a season like we have. At least for me I still got to see my player do well in the VHLM, you and the other guys didn't have that luxury. Important thing to remember is that we can only go up from here.
