jRuutu 2,464
During the weekend GustavMattias posted an article where he discussed the general managers. One of the main points in his article was the GM's drafting their own players. Gustav pointed out that there has been talking going around the league that some general managers might not re-create because that player has solid odds of being drafted by a rival team. General manager players are seen as valuable players, moving up the draft or simply trading for the GM player is a challenge. I'm not going to spoil the article any further than that, but the article is well worth a read, so read it if you have not already! Now, the point of this article is to share my thoughts on the topic mentioned above. What if the general manager for whatever reason does not have their player in their team? First reaction: I would not be interested in playing for that team. General manager players are usually the leading players in teams. As an active player, I know that if I keep rolling on, the team has at least two solid players. Maybe even two great players. That goes a long way as players in other teams might be more likely to join. Perhaps it makes trade talks slightly easier. Perhaps some free agents recognize the potential the organization has and that is just from general manager player and one active player steadily updating. Imagine if there are a few more? That team is going places soon. Is it the same if I happen to be in the team already and the re-creating general manager player is drafted by some other team? That is a question that I don't think I have had to think about ever in VHL. I would need to see or hear some genuine effort from the GM trying to get the GM player into the organization. I fully agree that GM players are valuable players. It absolutely is worth it to pay the ''top'' price for a player of that caliber. However, how seriously the GM is trying to make the trade happen might be impossible to figure out from the ''outside''. Of course, the timing might be weird. Not worth it to pay a top price if the rest of the roster is on the older side. Or maybe the team simply does not have enough valuable assets that make trading for the upcoming star GM player possible? Then we have this situation. GM player plays for some other team. Whatever the case might be, I would find it difficult to watch the team I represent struggle to make the playoffs if the general manager's player is playing well in some other team. Just thinking about it now is making me annoyed. YEA WE ARE NOT PLAYING WELL; YOUR PLAYER IS PLAYING FOR SOME OTHER TEAM. In the future I think the users in VHL need to be aware of everything that goes around the GM's and the GM players. VHL users need to consider adding NTC's in their contracts more often to eliminate the possibility of getting traded to somewhere else in GM player-related trade. The users need to read between the lines. If one of the better teams manages to draft a GM player and your own team is a bit so so, there is a good chance the GM is not trying that hard to make the trade happen. In that case, ask for a trade. Put pressure on the GM. That is all that comes to mind right now. Please head towards the exits one row at a time. RomanesEuntDomus 442
Review Interesting read and perspective on this issue. I gotta say, the whole GMs not necessarily being on their own team thing is still very weird for me, I'm curious to see how it will work out in the longer term. Formatting looked good on this one and i didn't catch any glaring mistakes! 8.5/
