Everyone has that dream winter vacation that they always want to take but never find the time to actually take that perfect trip. It is no different for hockey players in the VHL but at the end of the day what is the prefect trip for a hockey player? Hawaii or warm destinations? Nope, means no ice, skating or drills so yeah it usually means Hockey is involved in some of the vacation planning.

So where do you as an VHL player want to vacation that will allow you to continue to work on your game while on vacation? . Yes, Hockey in the Rockies.

As more and more figure out the great back drop of the Canadian Rockies, most have already figured this out as dream location to take a wife, or girl friend while still having the great ability to play some hockey in an amazing location.

Let dive into some of these locations for easy guidance into playing hockey while on a romantic vacation. Yes, I will also try to rank them and give some reason.

1.     Lake Louise: Famously known for skiing but overall has a great understanding of all winter sports from Downhill skiing, Cross country skiing and snow shoeing; they have also understood that the lake is a major attraction placing two rinks on the ice during the winter season with stunning back drops while also providing a location for family members to skate around a ice castle placed on the frozen lake. Add in the warm coco, fire places, and one horse open sleigh. Means it is a great location to spend the weekend with a romantic flare while still having the ability to skate, and play some hockey while the partner rest after a long outing during the day.

2.     Banff Fairmount Golf Course: Down below the Famous Fairmount Hotel on the first hole for their famous golf course every season they freeze start of the fairway to provide two outdoor skating areas. This is a great location due to close proximity to the Hotel, but also due to sledding hills in the areas so if you have children that aren’t interested in skating or playing quick game of pick-up; they can spend the time sledding down the hill. Warm open pit fire is also just below the famous Fondue restaurant that used to be a tea house and picture perfect mountains with Rundle and Cascade make it an amazing location for a skate during your vacation. Also very much in the heart of the Banff means you don’t lose out on shopping, eateries etc… that Banff has to offer.

3.     Pyramid Lake Jasper: I will admit that I haven’t spend much time in Jasper as it is the much smaller community compared to Banff, and Lake Louise but this is also part of the charm as it means you might easily have the lake to yourself with stunning views. Lease busy means a more relaxed and personal aspect to a trip away with family or friends.

In the end these are three amazing places to visit let a lone have the ability to play one of the greatest sports in a more nature and beautiful location, which won’t have many complaining even if you spend a little too much time skating or playing hockey. And your VHL GM will appreciate the extra training that you accomplished.

@Gaikoku-hito is after my heart. Canadian Rockies #1!

Miss the Rockies after living their for years playing hockey on all the lakes in the area. It was actually really hard not to include Lake Minnewanka or Lake Johnstone as they are more amazing places to skate rather then play hockey.

Famous pictures from Lake Minnewanka for clear ice and reflecting mountains off the ice.
