Post JST integral interview with Jacob Carson
Oli-La-Poutine replied to Oli-La-Poutine's topic in Archived Media Spots
For claiming @jacobcarson877785ish words @Oli-La-Poutine vhl.com gfx -
I had the pleasure to follow Team Brigade's activity in the S84 JST. For my first assignement as part of the formerly named VHLM Illustrated's writing team, I met every GM involved in the tournament. GM @jacobcarson877 give me such a rich interview I've decided to treasure it away from the b̶u̶t̶c̶h̶e̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ editing team. As promised, here lie the integral version of our discussion. Oli: First of all, congratulations on your back to back championship, what a stunning performance! Would you mind answering some question regarding the tournament? Jacob: i'd love to! Also, thank you Oli: First can you tell us about your experience as GM so far? Jacob: I love GMing. When I first joined the league it was the VHLM GMs that really stood out to me in the community. The people I've looked up to in the last 2+ years have been VHLM GMs at one point or another. As I started my journey with my latest player, Landon Wolanin, I found myself taking on an active leadership role on my teams, and so I figured if I had this passion and the time/energy to use on it, I should pursue becoming a GM! I got a season of AGMing under my belt under the mentorship of @Frank, and he encouraged me to try to find a GM position for myself! I took a job with the JST and the WJC that offseason and when Frank got promoted to Vancouver, it only made sense for me to fill his shoes back in San Diego. I had a blast this season in San Diego, but the JST was truly miraculous for me. To return to my role with the Brigade this offseason and get the opportunity to draft and meet so many VHLM draft-eligible players was a blessing. Not to mention we were pretty damn good too. I hope to bring a lot of what I've learned and how it felt to win back to San Diego for the upcoming season, and hopefully some of the players from that championship winning team too. Its a bit soon to say for sure, but I would love to make a return to the Brigade next time around as well, both as part of my passion for new members and as a tool for drafting for the Marlins. Oli: You managed to win back to back championship withing the JST, which is, quite a feat. What is your secret recipe? Jacob: I did come into this second tournament with a bit of an upper hand having known most of the prospects and how to use the sim to my advantage. But honestly I just wanted to put together a team that earned well, that had great attitudes and the drive to win. I was also very active on the waiver wire, carving out roles for new players as they came in, to replace the ones that weren't active. We only played the best of the best, and we were all rewarded with wins when it mattered most. Oli: You already mention you wished to bring back some Brigades player to San Diego with you, will you drop some names? Jacob: With not a lot of picks in this upcoming draft it'll be best for me to keep some of the names a secret but I think I made it pretty clear during the tournament who I thought had the potential to be a star, and tried to give them the best opportunity to showcase it to the other GMs. I know a lot of GMs watch it rather closely often steal the players I've laid claim to in my head. Any one of my Brigade are welcome to join the Marlins, and probably have an edge over other players at their TPE because of the previous relationship formed. Really excited to see who I can get my hands on, and sad already knowing some will be snagged from my grasp by smart GMs. Oli: Do you want to say something to your players to be published in the VHLMI? For word counting purpose: Just remember the beauty of the VHL isn't the flashy goals you'll score or the dramatic saves, even the bone-crunching hits! The beauty of the VHL is truly the friends you made along the way. Find ways to stay connected. Watch for them on the scoresheets, say hi when you see them around the league. We won't remember games, seasons and sometimes even entire careers at the end of the day, but we will always remember our friends. It has been a pleasure to get to know you all, and I hope to see your names on the scoresheets for many seasons to come!

1. We’ve been having quite a successful start of the season so far, what do you believe has contributed to our team’s success? Teamwork for sure, everyone seems to play their role and the chemistry is good. We are doing good but we will do better, mark my word. 2. Do you have a rivalry against another team or player? Not really but I'm happy to see I am outscoring some of my JST teamate. 3. How are you satisfied with your player’s performance so far? Absolutely, as a third round draft, I bet my GM is pretty satisfied too. 4. What’s more important in hockey, offense or defense? Balance, as in life. Look at the Oilers or the Leafs, all offence, nothing to show for. 5. Whose your favourite sports player of all time? Pateick Roy was something to see in is prime. What a goaltender. I had the privilege to witness the 93 cup run. He was incredible. 6. What’s is one thing we could improve on in Saskatoon? As a green horn, I am not the one to pretend I could do better then our upper floor executives. So far so good, we are in the race and that's what count.

One time, I farted so long, I was surprised my butthole didnt stop to catch his breath. 4. What is one thing you would get rid of in hockey? The Arizona Coyotes. 5. What is one fast food place that you cannot stand? Kfc and taco bell,. Their food reeks mediocrity. 6. Most boring sport to watch? Fast walk. Like wtf is going on here.

1. The VHLM Draft has come to a close, how does it feel being selected by the Saskatoon Wild? It is a thrill to join Saskatoon squad! I am now driving across the Canadian prairies to get there and man, there is a lot of nothing to look at on this highway. 2. What are your first impressions of the city? I've been arounda bit, love those neo-classical and neo-rennaissance style building. The churches are amazing. Poutine taste like armpit thought. 3. What are your expectations for this team? Why settle for less than aiming at the S85 championship? Do we admit to been defeated before the season even start? 4. What has your player been doing this past offseason? I was busy winning the JST with team Brigades and then totally destroyed in the ProAm with the Angus. I've seen glory and despair. 5. Whose your favorite fictional character? Megaman, Link from Zelda, Tim McKrank and the ninja turtles. 6. What's your favourite Soda? Ici c'est Pepsi...

HYPE! WHO WANTS HYPE? Come get some fresh HYPE! Although we are in the off-season, you can feel the frenzy around the league. Scouts, GMs and AGMs are running every tournament showcasing new talent. This year JST was epic, the ProAm just started, VHL S85 entry draft is fresh out of the oven, VHLE and VHLM entry draft are just around the corner. Hype in the forum, hype on discord, who said off-season was boring? I have a lot to cover, beforehand, rest in peace Puck Drop, you will not be missed! Indeed, this is my last edition of this blog since I've been selected to become a full time writer at VHLM Illustrated! I am now part of the big VSN family. I'm dropping my resignation at the Localist as soon as this writing assignment is done and I fully intend to quit Andy Bernard style. Screw you John. You suck. Do worry though, I may not own Puck Drop rights, but I will be blogging under a new banner soon enough. I also got my JST accreditation back and could follow Team Brigades through the finals! Congratulations to the champion Oli McGee and Jako's squad! What an exceptional tournament! I won't be covering too much of the JST in this PD edition because, teaser alert! I am writing a full article featuring GM. Jako and every other GM of the JST so stay tuned for VHLMI first publication of S85 coming next 6th september. Let's be honest, the Puck Drop segment was created to showcase Saint-Claude-de-la-Conception local star Oli McGee. Oli McGee came out of his S84 AAA midget season with an outstanding rep sheet. Recipient to the Mario Lebest Award as top scorer, and making it all the way up to win the Guy Doune cup with the Laval Titters. Oli reached his 17th birthday during the playoff which barely qualified him for the upcoming JST edition. On the 10 august S84, McGee was drafted 42th overall by Team Brigades, which is a decent rank for a young first year player and, sadly, considering the reputation of Quebec Virtual Hockey development programs. During the prequal round, Oli McGee mostly played on the second line. Having decent ice time, he gathered 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in 30 games which represent an average of 0.43 point per game. From my perspective it looked like the young left winger had a hard time finding consistency. For example, McGee scored 11 goals in 40 games. Three times, he scored twice in a single game, which means he scored five other goals in 37 games, an average of 1 goal per 7.4 games. Looking at those numbers, it demonstrates that when Oli McGee finds his groove early in a game, he is actually very dangerous. But then, he totally disappears, collecting an apple here and there. When I asked him about his consistency, or lack of, McGee said; "It is better to be inconsistently great, then to consistently suck". Oli McGee's refining quality did shine though. The young player went into the playoff and gathered 8 points in 11 games at an average of 0.8 points per game. I can conclude, true to himself, McGee always steps up when it counts. In conclusion, congratulations to Gm Jako with a back to back JST championship, and congrats to Oli McGee, adding one of, I wish, many other awards to his shelf.

1. VHLM Draft will be sometime this week! Take a crack at guessing who is going to draft you! Well I got some interviews and I felt it clicked with two of those team. But I will keep my guess to myself. 2. We are leading into September this week, what do you have going on in September that is exciting? The fact that I will get to wear my hoodies at night, this is exciting. VHLM draft is lit too. And I got some board game night action coming. 3. If you were a GM, what would be the most important thing to consider when drafting someone? Dedication. You have it or not. Talent without dedication is the recipe for buster. Daigle, Stefan, Yakupov. Great talent, no dedication. 4. What is something that has always confused you about the VHL? Forum always confuse me. I'm getting better but man, some of those trivia questions are a bitch. But i'm getting there. 5. Any ideas on what your next player is going to be? (In like a year and a half after you retire this one) Yes,Beyonce Middlefinger. Please dont steal this away from me. I'll roll an offensive defenceman because we need some good D in here. what? 6. I've been craving Kraft Dinner all week since all my friends have had it, what is a food you'd love to have right now? I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda. My account name is Oli La Poutine. You don't even need to read between the line. But I would boost it with pulled pork, maybe a 3 peppers sauce. Caramelized oignon. I'm hungry. -
I am not a graphic guy. I did my best.
