Tessier Reflects on VHML Dispersal Draft ... and Forwards to New Season

Recommended Posts

The VHLM Dispersal Draft is far in the rearview mirror and Luc Tessier is settling in to the LR of his new team. Luc had hopes of going in the first round, but then he saw the talented players (whose users also had prior players) who had entered the VHLM via waivers and who were far more experienced than he and he quickly began to recalibrate his expectations. Maybe second round would be more reasonable and he started thinking the third round was quite respectable as well.

The wild card is that he had spent some quality time in the San Diego Marlins LR pre-draft and @thad did have two 1st round picks: 1OA and 11OA. There was no chance he was going 1OA and though there was that outside chance of 11OA because of his time in the LR, Luc really didn’t feel like it was likely. As for the rest of the VHLM teams, Tessier had had brief conversations with GMs who showed some interest, but there was not enough information out of these brief chats to shed any real light on where he would go.

So, given all this, imagine Tessier’s surprise when his name was called – still in the first round. Yes, the Marlins had indeed selected him with their second pick in the first round – 11OA! And he was thrilled!!! He was prepared and excited to go pretty much anywhere to begin his journey to the VHL, but this was special. A management team who had gotten to see his playing ability and personal character up close had expressed their confidence in his potential with such a high pick.

Tessier’s excitement level has only grown now that he as met all of his new teammates. Everyone has been great and though San Diego has been in a bit of a rebuild after a recent all-in bid for a Cup, the team is confident that it will surprise the league and turn some heads this season.

Two teammates that Luc has had probably the most interaction with so far, The Loch Ness Monster @lulu and Nicholas Mariani @mi are also the two with Luc himself who are the early favorites to be named captain of the squad in the team vote, but it is early going with many outstanding votes. For sure, Luc would cherish the honor of being named captain, but he has no trouble at all losing out to either of these fine players.

The real question is how the team will do on the ice. Definitely a squad with initial heart and desire, but it’s a long season and resolve can falter, off the ice life can impinge on one’s on the ice performance and overall development.

When Tessier looks around the room, he doesn’t see that happening. He sees a fire that, even if it were to cool somewhat, would carry the Marlins to great success. On the eve of the first games in the new season, Luc looks forward with an eagerness unmatched in his hockey career to this point.

Let the games begin!

Good write-up overall. A little bland though, not very extravagant word choice, but it was descriptive of how your player felt. Also would like to see a picture in the next article.
