Sven Shining With Aces

It's been a competitive start to the season for the VHLM's Las Vegas Aces. The team currently sits in the 4th and final playoff spot in the Western Conference however San Diego is only one point ahead. Given the struggles for both Yukon and Mexico City out the gate it seems likely that it will just be about jockeying for position in the Western Conference for the playoff teams this season.

One player who has been doing relatively alright for the Aces is newly drafted defender Sven Reikkinen. Sven has managed 6 goals and 8 assists for 14 points thus far in the 10 games the Aces have played this season. However has been on the ice for some goals, as his plus minus sits at -11, the worst of any player on the team by a decent chunk. The next closest players are -5. That stat may be slightly skewed by the fact that Sven does the most of his offensive work on the power play as opposed to even strength noted by the fact that 10 of his 14 points have come on the PP, including 4 of his 6 goals.

While Sven may be proving himself to be a swift PP specialist, he still has other areas to clean up. His five on five game defensively has left a lot of wholes, and the overall physical play of the VHLM has left him lagging behind. On top of his +/- Sven also has 10 pims already in 10 games, something he's not particularly proud of given he prides himself on his discipline in the game. We'll see how all this shakes out this season, but we know for sure if Las Vegas is going to have success, particularly on the PP, look for Sven to be involved.
