I remember it like it was yesterday.

 

I remember the exhilaration of my first goal. I skated up the ice with the puck cradled in my stick. I had both eyes on the goal. I wasn’t thinking about anything else. My mind was just telling me…

“Goal, goal, goal.”

 

I traversed up the ice, trying not to think about the defenders behind me, but about the net up ahead. I finally had a clean opportunity to make a goal. The goalie couldn’t defend, and I knew I had to take that shot.

 

So I did. As it left the puck, my heart shattered. I thought it was wide. But in a game like hockey you have zero time to dwell on your mistakes- you can only try to rectify them later on.

 

But somehow, some way… it got in. Right into the upper right corner of the net. I heard the goal horn go off and it was like something clicked in my head.

 

After that, I knew where I was.

 

I was in the big leagues.
