Greg_Di 1,028
Billed as the weakest team in this years World Cup, The Mercs are turning heads as they currently sit tied for 2nd in the current WC standings with a record of 4-3-2. The Mercs have been offensively led by Patrik Laine @Laine who is currently 3rd in the tournament with points and great goaltending from Jean Pierre Camus @solas who has bailed the team out on multiple occasions. With the depth that this team has, it was definitely surprising to see them get billed as the weakest team in the tournament. Sometimes it's not about what looks good on paper, but how the team actually plays on the ice. There is still a long way to go but this team is looking like it will be challenging for medals at the end of the tournament. On the defensive side, Tom, has been struggling and this may not be a good sign for the Wranglers who expect Tom to be one of the leading defenders for the team this season. Currently Tom has only 7 points in 9 games with a team leading 26 PIM. " It is definitely not the start I wanted after a rough season last season" said Tom " Offensively I just have not been getting it done. Defensively I'm doing fine, but I really need to keep those PIM down. It doesn't help our team when I'm sitting in the box for half the game. That's just how I play though, I am very aggressive on the defensive side and that has always helped me play the way I want to play" This off-season Eagles has been working on his skating and puck handling which he wants improved before the start of the VHL Season. He has been trying out different strategies in the World Cup but with the tournament entering the final half, he may just have to go back to basics " I think I just have been trying to hard to make those perfect plays, getting into my own head " Tom continued " I need to get out of my head and play fundamental hockey. In order for me to succeed I just need to play my game. I need to stop focusing on my stats and just be happy if the team is winning. The World Cup has given me an opportunity to try out some new things and I now know what works and what doesn't. Those things that have worked I will carryover to Calgary" It will be a busy schedule for Tom as when the tournament ends he will be heading straight to Calgary for training camp and pre-season games. For Calgary to be successful Eagles has to have one of his best seasons to date. With looking at how things are going at the World Cup, it seems Tom will need to put in some extra work in order for that to happen. Eagles will also get to meet the newest member of the Wranglers, Dan Dan, and hopes to train with him in order to build some chemistry. We can't wait to see how the World Cup tournament ends and how well the Wranglers start the season. It is expected to be an exciting S79. AJW 2,192
Review: I like this update, I haven’t really followed WC since I don’t play in it and the games I have looked at have only been team Canada since that’s where I’m from. It’s cool to hear from a player on the Mercs and the interviews from your player, goals for next season and the rest of the tournament. Good luck in the rest of the tournament and stay out of the box ya goon. 10/10 Greg_Di 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/105814-mercs-getting-it-done/#findComment-860943 Share on other sites
scottisheyebrow 4
Review: Really interesting article! The image at the top is fantastic and your word choice is great! I did notice there were a few grammatical errors and missing punctuation, but they didn't really take anything away from the story. Overall, great work, and best of luck in the tournament! 9/10 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/105814-mercs-getting-it-done/#findComment-860959 Share on other sites
