June 2021, it was announced that the current Halifax management would be stepping down. With that came a decision, a decision to pick who would be next to pick the team up and move them forward. Days passed… the decision was made of who was going to be the next HAlifax gm. That descon was me. The excitement of getting the job settled and the work begun. As the offseason rolled around, trades were made, picks and players were acquired.

Draft night was upon us. The first pick made by the new management staff under Halifax was David Davis in the first round. A goalie who management was confident would be able to steal games for the team the upcoming season if needed. A huge pick up in this draft came in the second round with Zach Kisslinger being drafted. The draft continued with some more Halifax picks. When the draft came to a close management was hopeful but cautious about how the season ahead of them would go.

The season begins. Halifax starts off strong with multiple wins to start off the season. Surprising many with how well they were doing early on. As the waves settled and Halifax came back down to earth winning and losing more as expected by people surrounding the league. Halifax had hit a point in the season where they were struggling as they were constantly losing players to inactivity and having to release key components of their lineup. However, they continued to push through with the help of Kisslinger and Yrwy along with solid performances in goal by Davis.

The trade deadline comes around and Halifax is looking to move some players to get some picks for the next draft. The deadline passed with only one trade but one that got them a first in the season 80 draft. Around this time they picked up Nico Pearce and Zaza colors who would prove to be very important in the ending games of the season. Put on a line together they pushed each other to score and work hard to earn their minutes. Time continues to pass and Halifax is still in playoff position. They keep fighting for their spot and chance to play for the cup. A huge influx of waivers join the league and Halifax is busy trying to get some of them to join before playoffs start. They managed to pick up quite a few players including some new defense, a position they had been really lacking this season.

The regular season comes to an end and Halifax’s stats look like this:

Games      games       games      OT       points

Played         won         lost            loss

72

33

30

9

75

Those 75 points were enough for them to clinch 7th place and a playoff spot. The team worked hard  to earn and improve into the days before playoffs started.

Round One:

Saskatoon vs Halifax

Day one wasn't great. Halifax comes out of the day 0-2 both games pretty mediocre play. Day 2… Halifax wins a game to save themselves from elimination. The line of rookie waiver players came in clutch helping to secure the lead. Day 3… game 5 win or go home. Halifax left their hearts out on the ice but sadly it wasn't enough. They would be defeated by saskatoon in 5 games. Although disappointed in how it ended, management knew the ups and downs the team had gone through all season and was proud of them for overcoming so many changes to even get to the playoffs. Although we didn't get the founders cup there are a few team awards I would like to give out to some players who made an impact whether it was the whole season or just the end.

First off, I'd like to congratulate Bryn Yrwy and Zach Kisslinger for their overall amazing seasons. Yrwy put up a league high this season 62 goals in a 72 game regular season. Kisslinger put up a league high this season 89 assists in the 72 game regular season. Without them there's no way we do as well as we did!

The first award to be given out is the “silent but deadly”. This award is going to a player who although maybe wasn't a huge presence in the locker room they were huge on the ice. Stealing games that we shouldn’t have won. He was a tremendous updater and worked hard constantly to improve his player and make him the best he could be. This award goes to no other then our starter goalie David Davis

The next award is best learner. At the end of the season we had many players who we picked up and they had to quickly learn the game right before playoffs were about to begin. This required them to work hard and take a lot of advice and instructions at once and be able to perform in a few days during playoffs. It's not easy for anyone to get accustomed to, especially not that quick. This season's best learned goes to Marttins Stepka

The next award is the best  name award. Now this award is to the person who in my opinion has the best player name. I have no real reason why I like this name so much but the best player name goes to Zaza colors!

The next award for this season goes to best updater. Now truthfully there are quite a few players who I consider great candidates for this award. I decided to go with someone who joined late in the season but because of their great efforts updating they had a huge impact on the team even though they were only on the team for a short time. This award goes to Nico Pearce.

The last award I'm going to give out today is the season MVP. The person who is getting this award was not only huge in contributing on the ice but also was a great presence in the locker room. They were always around chatting and having fun. They ended up being the leaders in goals across the league this season and contributing many other ways. They were an absolute pleasure to GM and work with this season. The season MVP goes to Bryn Yrwy.

Thank you to every player for an amazing season and good luck next season!

Was a super awesome experience to play for this team and we did all we could with the lack of dmen we had this season, congrats to all who won team awards also. article is super easy and interesting, it has a personal feeling that keeps you interested. I like the different fonts and colours, for the 10/10 maybe a graphic or a picture!
