A tale of two brothers // Silver Linings

The Jansers played two more games in the VHLM. Please find our summary below.

The first match was against last years co-finalist the Miami Marauders. Apparently the team had followed the advice from our last issue and shot from every possible angle in an effort to best the Marauders' goaltender. The match was a close one and ended 4-3 for the Hounds. The Miami outfit scored first with only 0:11 minutes into the game. It was not only their first goal in the game, it was also Jeremy D's first goal of the season. Seven minutes later the Hounds equalized, when Hall let lose a slapper from the blueline after Marcel dished the puck with a saucer pass on his line mate's tape. Forty seconds later, Daniel scored a goal with a sweet mid-air deflection of Lospenov's stray shot. In the second period, the Hounds' number 11 steamrolled along the boards and passed back to Lospenov in the high slot, who buried the puck topshelf. At the end of the game the Marauders pulled the goalie in a desperate attempt to score the equalizer, but it was too little, too late and the Hounds claimed the two points for themselves.

It is rare that the better goalkeeper loses a game, but the Marauders' last man had a .900 save percentage while his opposite number stopped only .813 of the shots fired at him. Due to the Mississaugan's massive offensive effort, this was just good enough this time. Also the Hounds' power play was ineffective (0/5) while the penalty kill was okay-ish (2/3). The three stars of the game were Jeremy D (3g/0, way to pop a goal cherry with a hattrick), Lospenov (1g/2a) and Hall (1g/0p).

Marcel had 0g/1a, +1, 5 shots (second of his team), 2 shots blocked (top of the team) and 24:07 minutes on ice (shared first with Daniel, Hall and Bedard)

Daniel had 1g/1a, +1, 4 shots and also 24:07 minutes played

It is unfortunate that after a successful game, the next match was against one of the best teams in the league, the Lynxes. The game was lost 9-3 and was already decided after the first period (5-1). Towbaker and Buzzer had a field day with the Hounds' defense and scored at will. The brothers co-produced the 1-1 equalizer with Marcel scoring a wrap-around goal on Daniel's pass. After this temporary sliver of hope, the game went downhill for the Mississauga team. The Lynxes replied with 5 unanswered goals and nursed the game home. It may not come as a surprise that all the spots in the lime light were taken by Ottawa players. Buzzer (2g3a), Towbaker (3g/2a) and Blugers (1g/2a) hogged the podium. The Hounds' power play was okay-ish (1/6) and the penalty killing a tad was worse than last match (3/5). Red Menace had a .833 which is below his average but the Mississauga netminder went even .769 and was for once not the support the Hounds needed.

Marcel logged 1g/0a, +0 rating and 25:39 minutes of ice time (joined first with his brother)

Daniel had 0g/1a, +0 and 25:39 minutes TOI as well.

The brothers stats so far as follows:

Marcel: 13gp, 3g, 7a, 10pts, +2, 4pim, 8hits, 36sb

Daniel: 13gp, 7g, 10a, 17pts, +2, 4pim, 29hits, 9sb, 1gwg, 2ppg

Review: I really like how you talked about the plays that happened and how goals were scored i find that very fun to read and im not one to like reading at all :D Only thing i would do differently is maybe spacing the sentences up to make it a bit easier of a read. Overall i really liked this 8/10  (10's are very hard to get)

Review:  Really fun article to read.  Excellent word choice and turn of phrase.  Kept me ripping right along.  No glaring issues with grammar or spelling that would take me out of the moment.  Loved the excitement of the play by play.  9/10
