A tale of two Brothers // High Honours

Our local hockey exports played another two games since our last article.

The first match was against the Hounds, the brothers' previous club. It was a close match with the final score being 6-5 for the Reapers. The game's tide changed several times and GM @Alex_J32 must have grown a grey hair or two during the course of the match. First the Reapers scored to consecutive goals with Dokisl opening the proceedings, assisted by Marcel and Mursu. Almost 6 minutes later, Daniel scored with Jones and Sanderson dishing the puck for him. Then it was for the Hounds to perform and perform they did, with three unanswered goals in less than 90 seconds. A little over five minutes later, the Reapers scored two back-to-back goals, Daniel with his second of the night and Ayodele with his second of the season reinstated the Philadelphian lead. Mississauga pulled one back, before the Reapers scored an other two consecutive goals with Dokis and Ayodele scoring their second goals of the evening each. The final goal in the match went to the Canadian franchise, but there was not enough time left, and so the Pennsylvanian carried all the points home. The three stars went to Lospenov (2g/2a), Bedard (2g/1a) and Ayodele (2g/0a, one of which the gwg). The netminders' performance was nothing to write home about, but it was not bad either with .857 for MIS and .878 for Des Aves. The Reapers had 1/5 power play (which is okay) and 3/5 box play (which is not).

Marcel showed a 0g, 1a and +0 record

Daniel was 2g, 0a, and +1

The second match was against the best team in the league the Yukon Rush, which the Reapers lost ignominiously 6-1. The only daylight we see in that game's performance was Des Aves who prevented his team with a .895 saving rate from an even higher defeat (Price had .941). The East Coasters were out shot 57-17, had a 0/5 power play (non)performance and a 6/8 penalty kill success rate (which at least was average). Also the two best shot blockers in the league only managed to stop two pucks between them, and as mentioned before there was no shortage of Rush attempts. Daniel saved what dignity was left in the team this night by scoring the last goal of the game and disallowing Price his shutout with 6:43 minutes left in the game. The Reapers were clearly outclassed in almost every aspect and it is for the coaching staff now to find out whether Yukon was that good or the Reapers that bad (or a little of both). It will surprise none of our readers that all three stars were occuppied by Yukon players with Mulds (3g/0a, including the gwg) taking the lead followed by Karjalainen (1g/1a) and Colors (0g/3a).

Marcel had 0g, 0a and -2

Daniel logged 1g, 0a, -1 and 27:01 minutes played (second of the team)

After the two games Dan was awarded the Reaper Key, a trophy which is passed down from the previous holder to the next one for outstanding performances in the period expired since the nominator (this time Reaper's captain Mason Jones @Masu Chan) received it.

Daniel was equally surprised as honoured to receive such a distinction by his peers, but he was also miffed about the loss (more about the manner it developed rather than the loss itself, Yukon is not leading the league for nothing and it is okay to lose against such a team).

The Jansers stats so far in their freshman season:

Marcel: 48gp, 13g, 25a, 38pts, -7, 36 PIM, 52 hits, 102sb, 1gwg, 6ppg

Daniel:  48gp, 23g, 26a, 49pts, -20, 30 PIM, 101 hits, 24sb, 3gwg, 5ppg, 1shg
