Intro

It’s tough to put a finger on what I may do after the VHL, but I do have some idea of how the future could look. I will be looking to get back into hockey under some type of management or gm role. I want to really try and ease myself into it and not take on too much and get burnt out. Whether Brendan ends up making the HOF or not at this point, I don’t think I can go through another full player without some other kind of involvement. My third player will likely be a welfare guy that’s still highly competitive and a first round player. In the event that Telker doesn’t make the HOF, I would be very tempted to go all out with a third player to try again. This could very well turn into a juggling act as I also want to be an AGM somewhere by the time my third player is rolling.

Hylands has very recently announced that he is retiring from being the GM of Malmo. While this makes me pretty sad to see him go, I do understand it from his perspective, and I want to make sure I put myself in a position where I will be able to last for years and years more in the VHL. While I can’t say exactly what Hylands will end up doing now, I expect him to have some type of involvement going forward. This was a bitter sweet reminder that not all good things last. It seems like I’ve already had a whole career in Malmo when it’s only been half a career so far.

The rebuild quickly shifted into win now mode, and with Hylands gone to start the next year, there’s a very big up in the air feeling about how Malmo could look next season. I hope for Brendan Telker’s sake he can grab another award, maybe lift another cup, and enjoy retirement in a beautiful mountain cabin on a lake. Telker would need some hobbies to do on the lake. So he’ll end up buying a nice speed boat to cruise around the lake. Telker is a dog person too, so a new puppy should be in the cards for Telker as well. Of course with Nate Telker being brothers with Brendan, Nate has had a child a while back actually, and is right in line to join the VHL right around the time when Brendan should be retiring.

I know I took my own spin on the “life after the vhl”. But when I read that as is, I don’t wanna imagine ever leaving. The day I leave will be sad for not only me but many other people. I started in the VHL feeling like a tiny little fish, figuring it would take an insane amount of effort and time to even get close to where I am right now. Well it took some effort, and it took some time, but I wouldn’t go back and change a damn thing. Fortunately I think that day is a long long time away, heck, I’m 23 and could see myself going into my 30’s at this point!

Review: I liked the honesty which you discussed your time in the VHL with here. I wouldn't mind to see out my days on Earth with a beautiful lake side cabin in the Canadian rockies. As always with your articles, the grammar and spelling is spot on. You usually rock some colours in these things, I missed them this time! Other than that a great read! 8.5/10
