VHLW North Team Name Analysis: Shanghai

Recommended Posts

Located on China's east coast, Shanghai is one of the great cities of East Aisa. Originally one of the five ports forced open to European trade in the First Opium War, Shanghai has evolved into the only city in East Asia with a greater GDP than it's corresponding capital. The home of basketball star Yao Ming has hosted a NHL exhibition game in 2017 so there is hockey awareness in this place. I would call an upstart franchise placed here the Shanghai Phoenix. As I mentioned in my previous article, the phoenix is not the same creature as similar Vermillion Bird. This Chinese phoenix also has only superficial similarities with the Western phoenix. Fenghuang as they are natively known are described as having a mixture of bird parts. Their bodies are multi colored with black, white, red, yellow, and green being used. The phoenix is seen as a female counterpart of the dragon. The dragon and phoenix often appear together at weddings because the are symbolic of blissful relations between husband and wife. It would be interesting to see if those five colors could be used successfully in a jersey.

Review: Finally It is back.

I love your project as you know and as time passes you are slowly getting better, proud of you mate.

I love the name and the city and to be honest you are a lot creative.

In the end this gets a solid 9 out of a 10, keep it up mate.
