What a Week!

I've been trying to avoid stream of consciousness rants for my VHL.com Articles (that's what my podcasts are for), but this has been such a busy week in the VHL that I want to - very rapidly and with no real depth - touch on some of the things that would otherwise be on the podcast cutting room floor.

 

- In the VHLM, the two irritatingly OP teams of Yukon Rush and Ottawa Lynx or Ice Dogs or whatever are having drag-out knockdown battle in the finals for the Founder's Cup. Parity is bad in the VHLM and it's a league that seems to constantly be in need of tweaking and changes, but at least these two are making it a worthy series, with it needing a Game 7 after today.

 

- In the VHLE, the playoffs were similarly exciting with the Vasteras Iron Eagles winning the inaugural and comically yet unnamed league championship today, after two very intense 7-game playoff series! It's poetic that the same team that won the inaugural Continental Cup has won what I suppose could comfortably be called the inaugural European Cup, and it would tickle me (and torment @rjfryman) if they had a similar streak of poor luck for the next 30 seasons or whatever, as they did in the VHL.

 

- Not much about the VHL playoffs has made me feel good so I'm skipping that.

 

- The Freddy Elmebeck nominations are out and it's been a particularly tough season for me to nominate someone, and I mean that in a very good way. I feel like we've seen so many members step up, or perhaps rather continually contribute to the league at a level that I would consider above and beyond. This season in particular I think the whole @Moderator squad deserves a big kudos, as does everyone who made the first season of the VHLE a success, which I guess would be various members of the @BOG. Then we have our @VHLM GM's who are always doing the most work to make the VHL an awesome and sustainable place to be, so there's a wealth of great candidates for this very special award. I am not one of them, so if people could stop nominating me I would love that!

 

- It's also VHL award voting and deliberation season and I will continue to not participate in that even though I could. Vote for Pedro.

 

I think there's more I've been musing over recently but I'm nearly at Media Spot length here and we can't have that. I'll end with an encouragement to any reader to assault the next member who joins with attention and kindness.
