2021 and Done

2021 was a pretty chaotic year to start with, and then just sort of kept going that way. I'm sure we'll all be happy to put 2021 out of our memories, but there are some things I really enjoyed in 2021 especially in regards to the VHL.

 

1. Getting the Moscow GM position

 

I had to go and double check the job interviews section to make sure this was even a 2021 occurrence because I feel like I've been in the position for longer than just a mere year. But no, the job opened up on March 6th, and it's been a great year at the helm of the organization that drafted me in 2020. I had the privilege to meet and interact with so many phenomenal people, listen to such diverse experiences, and build a small community of good people. I think my new year's resolution for the VHL would be to draft more first-gens, I feel like I've only been drafting recreates and missing out on the potential to meet newer faces, so I'll try to do that a bit more in the future so that Hatter isn't trapped on Moscow for the rest of his sim league life.

 

2. Getting to "officially" run VHFL

 

I'm a spreadsheet nerd and VHFL is like.....the digital version of Valkyrae. I simp for both. I'd been involved in VHFL since Twists left in S73, but always from behind the scenes and exclusively on the calculation and results portion of it. I'd suggest some improvements, but it was up to the manager to implement. Now as the manager, I enjoy being able to feel like I'm not stepping on toes, and that I can easily implement solutions to issues people have mentioned for a while. Nerd shit, but it's nice.

 

3. The people

 

Some of you are cool, some of you are the opposite of cool. Regardless, I'm grateful to everyone in the community for the role they play, it's a nice league to be in and I'm always excited to see how the community shapes the league moving forward into the future.

I'm a bit salty that I joined too late to be in the VHFL. So that's something to look forward to in 2022 for me.
