fromtheinside 1,289
The Malmo Nighthawks' players were cleaning out their dressing rooms for the summer yesterday as they fell to the Moscow Menace in the EU Conference Final for a second straight season. It was a hard fought series, but ultimately the Russian-based club emerged victorious once again, thanks to strong efforts across the board from their entire roster. The loss stings a bit extra this season, as it was revealed a couple of weeks ago that longtime Nighthawks defenseman Scotty Kaberle was going to retire after this playoff run. The fans, the organization, and especially Kaberle himself were all hoping to get one last Continental Cup before riding off into the sunset. It will be interesting to see how the Nighthawks roster takes shape going forward. Alongside Kaberle, defenseman Matty Thunder also will be hanging up the skates this offseason, and on top of that, there are rumors Kristof Welch may be testing free agency this offseason. It will definitely be a new look blueline this coming fall in Malmo. It should be interesting to see how GM Dominic Gobeil deals with some of these hard decisions his club will face on the horizon. He was chosen as the predecessor to GM Hylands a couple of seasons ago, and he came in when the team was still widely considered a powerhouse in the league. He made some bold moves to keep the team's window for success open as long as possible. What he decides to do next though may be what he is most remembered for during his tenure in Malmo! Spartan 4,369
I said it to Dom in DM's, but it was a tough fight for us as well. Definitely the most scared I've been in the playoffs knowing you guys were steamrolling folks from the TDL onwards. Malmo was always the biggest threat to Moscow over the past couple seasons and you guys handled us in the regular season this year. Cheers on a solid career with Kaberle, and I hope to keep competing with Malmo in the future. Maybe we can team up sometime in the future as players/GM's! fromtheinside and Lemorse7 1
