Adam Warlock; from VHLM Legend to VHL Mediocracy

Recommended Posts

In season 58, the Ottawa Lynx dominated the VHLM. After finishing with a record of 62-6-4 and 128 points, the Lynx would easily go on to win the Founders Cup. But what is more impressive is their regular season point scorers. The Lynx scored 490 regular season goals, a record which hasn’t been approached. Out of those 490 goals, Adam Warlock, Matt Denning and David Kiaskov scored 292 of them. All three players broke the 200 point mark with 255, 201 and 215 respectively. With 255 points, defensemen Adam Warlock cemented himself as a VHLM legend. After 23 seasons he still sits on top of the single season points, goals, assists and power play goals in the minor league.

The following season Warlock would begin his rookie year in Quebec. In season 59, the Quebec Meute had 17 points and 61 losses, 8th most all time. Warlock’s rookie year matched the team, culminating in 36 points. Warlock would depart the Meute to join Hc Dynamo in “the land of promise” Davos. Despite the new team, Warlock's next two seasons would see near identical numbers. He fell to a total of 32 points in the previous season, and then 39 in season 61. His defensive stats would also begin to flee as his shot blocks would drop around 35% per season. Davos was a strong team in season 61, making it to the playoffs and eventually won the cup. This was the first Continental Cup in Warlock’s career. Warlock's first glimpse of individual hockey success came in those playoffs with 13 points in 14 games. A peek into the promising rest of his career.

Season 62 would be the rejuvenation of Warlock's career. In this season, while still playing for Davos he boasted a career high in assists with 54 and 65 total. In season 63 he joined the Toronto Legion and would perform even better with a career high in both goals and points with 23 and 75.

Between season 63 and 64 Warlock’s career would take a change in direction. Going into his second season with the Legion he switched into becoming a winger. These final two seasons in Toronto ended being his best overall. Point wise, he did fine with 57 and 44. Although team wise, he won back to back cups, adding onto his previous Continental Cup from Davos.

From a VHLM legend and record holder to an average VHL player. Adam Warlock’s story is one all too many players see. Tons of individual success and awards in the VHLM to being a decent player in the VHL. After 7 seasons and 3 cups Warlock’s career would come to an end. A career in which he could look upon and be happy with. But a career which peaked early on.
